I could’ve sworn that I’ve seen Ado perform as herself on Kouhaku before, a little after Ussewa became a hit. They wheeled a screen with her V-Tubing-esque persona onto the stage, I think. Or was she only interviewed that time? Or was she not a participant in the Red vs White?

And this is how I find out that Go Hiromi hasn’t been a Johnny’s since 1975. When I first heard from my mother about Go Hiromi and she called him an idol, I just assumed he had always been Johnny’s, even though his other two big hits came out after he left, according to Wikipedia.

Is this the first time a female celebrity and male celebrity haven’t been named as the respective representatives of the Red and White teams?
Regarding the singers, there was some talk about K-pop singers being invited to fill in the gaps that (former) Johnny’s idols leave with their absence, but that hasn’t seemed to happen to the extent I was expecting (although certainly many of the boy/girl groups appearing this year are heavily K-pop inspired). Really happy that Tatsuya Kitani is being invited; I loved his opening for JJK, and while I was meh on his Bleach opening, I still listen to When the Weak Go Marching In. I wonder what song(s) Yonezu Kenshi will sing; I expect his song from the latest Ghibli movie will be part of his setlist. Maybe (almost definitely) Kickback? Especially with the recent RIAA announcement. Not thrilled that Strawberry Prince is debuting on the Kouhaku stage; I haven’t moved on from Nanamori’s confession that he had an affair (although congrats to the other members). Also, Junretsu, again? You cannot convince me that all the middle-aged to older ladies are listening to them anymore.
With the news that Johnny’s artists weren’t going to appear on this year’s Kouhaku, I wasn’t planning to watch the program (I probably wouldn’t have either way, as it was unlikely that WEST. would’ve been invited, and I have little to no interest in the other groups). But I might just watch the Tatsuya Kitani section…

It feels like a surprise to see MAN WITH A MISSION on here. Congrats to them for getting in.

weird that after all this time all mass media self-censoring itself is finally getting this coverage even NHK of all channels, but the ones that are now doing self-censorship is all those popular youtubers that make money talking about japan but completely ignoring this massive piece of news, even popular japanese are talking about this

I believe MISAMO will also be making a debut appearance this year on the Red Team.
