A 90 minute episode in THIS industry? Holy shit?!

The premise of this series sounds bonkers and I am all for it!

So they're gonna adapt whole 1st volume in this one episode I presume? I'm glad for this decision, since it makes perfect sense (who knows then knows).

Makes sense. It's sort of like Remake our Life where the big twist is critical to understanding the true story. Best to get it out of the way early, rather than to mislead people about the story

I thought they'll make a movie from the prologue volume for some reason but equivalent of 3 regular eps may be enough. I wonder, where they plan to stop the series. Tokyo blade arc final may be a good point.

Also, Riyori as Ai. Decent choice. Let's see who they cast for other roles.

What

I've read the manga and a 90 minute 1st episode is a bit baffling

It makes sense if they want to spoiler[show up to Ais death and enter the main story. If they do it as 3 separate episodes people might be turned off when there's major plot switch up by episode 4 ]

Akasaka adaptations just can't help going all out, huh. Man might be the luckiest mangaka in the entire industry in that regard. (Assuming the OnK anime ends up being as good as it seems - but this is already a very good sign.)

This is fantastic news. Great idea to get vol 1 out of the way and into the main story already on ep 1. 90 minutes, wow. Haven't seen an hour and a half, hell an hour, beginning ep since Darwins Game. The KV looks fantastic as well! Well done Doga.

Key the Metal Idol's final 2 episodes were of this lenght, while all the other episodes were 25 min., so this isn't unheard of.

Still, that was an OVA series from 1994-1997. This is unheard of in the 21st century,

And in this case, it seems to be because they decided the most effective start would be to give us the whole first volume in one go, as opposed to Key's penultimate episode, which was one giant exposition dump explaining the plot.

Even in US TV, though, while I've heard of a double-length premiere, I've never heard of a triple. At this level, you could just screen the episode in theaters. Which seems fitting, because it's similar to what Wake Up, Girls! did.
