well this just went from bad to worse for the industry. in time the federal trade commission WILL have to get involved.

hopefully the last remaining independent anime studios and companies' wont fall under their banner and remain independent.

for all this is doing is sadly given pathetic excuses for people in other anime forums (LOOKING AT YOU SANKAKU COMPLEX!) and on social media to justify pirating anime and manga which is what occurred when udon entertainment made a statement on their reddit page on the reasonings of why the edited and censored some of the ecchi fanservice for the manga version of summertime rendering

So I got an e-mail from RS that was headed: Update on Your Mature Item Order. I started scratching my chin trying to remember what I ordered that would fall into that basket, MATURE ITEM. I have multiple open orders because of the amount of manga I ordered that are OOS or pre-ordered. So I went over them all when AH!, there it was: Ladies Vs. Butlers: Undressed Edition.

That's surprising, considering that, as you mentioned, the other versions of the anime are still up.

My first thought was that the "Erotica" tag was deleted without review. That's why several non-H like Redo of Healer, Interspecies Reviewers, and this series are gone.

However,
from this Google cache, it seems that at least some series just had the "Erotica" tag removed instead of being deleted.

My first reaction is that I don't see how this is good for the industry. Rightstuf is already a great company and who knows what Crunchyroll is going to do with it. They may very well run it into the ground and the great standards that rightstuf has there will be gone. Crunchyroll goes from already too big to even bigger. Rightstuf has the right to sell out and take the money but that's all it's to me. Sad.

Sad to see them go this route.

Looks like my wallet is going to find a new place to rest.

So, now having right stuf in the USA, former MangaUk in the uk, madman in Australia. What will be next? If I've to make a rough guess in Europe there is a pretty big anime retailer which imports from the USA and the UK called Archonia.

All we need now is for Sony/Crunchy/Funy to buy ANN and MAL and we'd really be up the creek.

That'd make for a great April Fool's Day news release.

Yea, I'm not happy about this. Right Stuf is a cool Company and one of the few left that sell DVD's and Blu-Rays. Including Hentai. I can't help but think Crunchyroll is just gonna siphon money from them and they're quality will go down the Drain. Not to mention Sony buying up more Anime Companies and growing their Monopoly.

The shittyroll conglomerate can shove it up their corporate ass-but having said that it doesn't really affect me at all as I stopped buying just about all physical anime releases a few years ago and the very few things I do buy usually come from Best Buy. Probably 85% of the anime I have now came from RS but as a lot of people have mentioned their service and prices have gone straight down the crapper in the past couple of years so no big loss. I do feel sorry for the people who still patronize RS because they're going to have very little (if any) choice now-RACs or ? I can guarantee you that one of the first things shittyroll will do is expunge Sentai, Animeworks, Discotek and all others that are not shittyroll brands.

I noticed that in the adult material emails Right Stuf used to send, there would be some BL/yaoi. Not really a fan of the genre but how much of it would qualify as porn/erotica in terms of being delisted from RS now that Crunchyroll owns it?

It seems like a toss up. Most SuBLime stuff seems to be safe, including Toritan and Don't Be Cruel which I know have sex scenes in it and say "explicit content" on the cover. On the other hand, The Titan's Bride anime was delisted including the DVD version which doesn't have any explicit content in it. Yet the preorder for volume 1 of the manga, which has the same content and is rated 18+ on the site, is still up.

Right Stuff isn't a public company it's a private company it was solely up to Shawne P. Kleckner whether to sell or not.

On a strictly personal level, I'm fine with the adult stuff being moved to a different storefront. I can't think of an instance where RightStuff misclassified anything that wasn't actually adult material as such (even Interspieces Reviewers is correctly treated as a general release) and unless you're specifically looking for that kind of stuff, you probably don't want to see it while shopping for general anime/manga.

What I'm more worried about is the corporate consolidation and more and more companies falling under the Sony umbrella. It feels to me that we're in another bubble, and when things go bad again, larger profit-driven companies like Sony will likely let the axe fall, hard, on their anime/manga division. It's already happening to Netflix's animation department, in a different entertainment media bubble.

Remember how powerful ADV felt at the height of the last bubble... and what happened after it burst?

Though even in the absence of a bubble, it's just scary with how much of the anime/manga industry is under Sony's thumb at this point.
