Fan uploaded a subbed version of the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BMUBuCSIHQ
Hope a simulcast is announced soon. Also curious to see what a potential dub will do. Are we looking at a brand new dub cast, or will they pull a Shaman King and try to bring back as many of the 4Kids VAs as possible? |

I have a feeling Crunchyroll is going to acquire the license soon.

Looking good! Hopefully it does the story justice in honor of the artist.
If Cruncyhyroll gets this than I think it's a sure bet that it'll be a complete Texas redub. |

I only ever watched the 4Kids dub (as far in as they got) and heard about later anime developments, though I did read later in the manga. Hope the new series does well and gets licensed, though I’d really love to get the classic series in full somewhere too. I’ve got fond memories of Ichigo and company.

I wonder why it’s airing at midnight? I thought TMM was a children’s anime. Are they trying to go for the otaku demographic?

I assume they don't have a whole lot of faith in the show doing really well with kids*, so they're counting on people who may be in it for the nostalgia factor, or those who follow their favorite seiyuu... in any case, adults who may either watch it real time, or just record it to watch later (and/or record it for their kids to watch, I guess). That's how most of these late-night shows get watched anyway, it's not a whole lot of people, relatively speaking, who actually stay up to watch them. *How well did the new Card Captor Sakura do with kids, anyway? This is anecdata, but people I know (in Japan) said their kids actually preferred the old anime and didn't like the new one. Same with Sailor Moon Crystal, everyone who showed Sailor Moon to their kids says they loved the old anime but don't really care for Crystal. |

The new promo looks very good so far. Lettuce especially looks amazing. I'm also excited we finally get to see Quiche and the other antagonists. Even though Ichigo has a new seiyuu she sounds so much like her original seiyuu to me. This is my most hyped show for the summer season.

I have no data whatsoever, but it wouldn’t surprise me. A lot of these nostalgia remakes have struggled to recapture the original’s magic - especially because they’re so much shorter than those original series, leaving much less room for the character moments and no room for fun shenanigans episodes. (Clear Card at least built off the characterization from the original, being a continuation rather than a remake, but while I watched that fandom secondhand the sense I got was that the ‘plot’ such as it was had the less anthropomorphized and thus appealing Clear Cards in the Clow/Sakura Card position, people keeping secrets from Sakura for Reasons, and then we’d go off on some random tangent about the matryomin or something that didn’t really add to characterization but was at least more fun than Keeping Secrets From Sakura.) For all fans talk about filler and wanting a more faithful adaptation of the manga, Sailor Moon’s just not the same without Minako being a terrifyingly bad nurse or everyone fighting over who gets to be Snow White in the school play. Which is definitely a concern for TMM, but maybe they’ll give it enough breathing room hoping for another season. |

That's what I'm expecting to happen as well, and I'd be okay with that! Especially if they get Caitlin Glass for voice director and Bonny Clinkenbeard for script adapter. Those two are an incredible combination when it comes to shojo series. (Just look at Fruits Basket's dub, or even Clear Card's if you want a magical girl example)
The Shaman King reboot led to Discotek re-releasing the original series so I could see that happening with Tokyo Mew Mew as well. I'd recommend anyone who wants a re-release of the Mew Mew Power dub, and/or to see the original '01 anime get official subs at long last, to politely suggest it to Discotek on all social media platforms. |
