This is actually the second trailer instead of the first. The first one debuted over a year ago with the release of Gundam Narrative.
I'm really looking forward to this. I hope it gets a dub and played in theaters over here like Narrative did.

Here's hoping it's a very... liberal adaptation. The book was... not great.

Quote: | A "Gundam Fan Gathering: Hathaway Heris to Gundam" event will unveil the cast and theme song artist on March 24 at Zepp Diver City in Tokyo. Amuro Ray voice actor Toru Furuya will also appear at the event. |
But we already have most of the cast? Why am I getting the feeling we're getting some recasts?

In that case you should stick around the ending.

Woah! I forgot that Shuko Murase is directing! Seeing that and watching this trailer, I have some high hopes for this film. It looks pretty ambitious in its presentation/scenarios, and maybe it's just me, but from these short snippets, this may be one of the best representations of modernizing U.C. character designs in animation yet. (i.e. It doesn't look like it's dead set on keeping a lot of 70s visual quirks, but at the same time, it doesn't look like it's oversimplifying and streamlining everything to be overly polished, either.) I've been on the fence about being burned out again on the U.C. timeline, so hopefully this film will show me it's got something left in the tank.

I think it's going be challenge to adapt. With changes with how animation is done and rise of people like CG vs Cell-Animation, its may have some hurtles to overcome.
I've not read the story, i've heard of Hathway story. Question how it fits after the events of Unicorn? Given what I've read about the book, liberal version of the story maybe needed.

Sunrise is calling this new video "Teaser Trailer 1," perhaps since arguably, the first video was never a standalone teaser trailer.

The ending of the book is needlessly cruel, even for Tomino. I'm usually a stickler for sticking to the source, but here, they can change a few things.

The novel is basically a collection of all of Tomino's most Tomino tropes, but the worst executions of each. The ending by itself wouldn't necessarily be that bad if the preceding text built up to it or justified it in some way... but it doesn't.

I bought the paperback of Amazon.co.jp, along with Beltochka's Children, and read them both the normal way.

I do hope there's a chance the book might get translated to go along with the movie, if only for the sake of comparison.
I don't know how much is likely to change, but I do know people were wondering if they'd have to stretch it out by making a film trilogy. But, seeing as how this isn't being called "Hathaway's Flash I" or something (and as the article says, "originally announced as a trilogy"), maybe that isn't happening anymore.

From the trailer it looks like the title of the first movie is "Hathaway".

I know that Zeonic Republic has translated the first 12 chapters.
