Well people can interpret relationship Madoka and Homura as romantic as in the case Naruto and Sasuke but in reality Madoka isn't yuri. In twelve episodes of anime none of the girls were canon gay. I suspect that if Madoka and Homura (or Naruto and Sasuke) were typical boy x girl, they would be canon couple.

Only what this list shows is that not many yuri shows are produced.

Goodness, the salt in this thread is something to behold. And disbelief in subtext. Did you all think the main characters in Liz And The Blue Bird were "just friends," too, like it says on the box?

Seriously, though, I don't know what you folks expected. It's a popular show, commonly interpreted as yuri even though, technically, there is no kissing. Same is true of several other shows on this list. Madoka has been at the top of similar rankings before, for the same reasons. Getting offended because people interpreted something as gay when you felt it was platonic is a bit... y'know... phobic.

It's been a long time since I've seen Madoka so can't really offer specifics but no one would go through all Homura went through for just a friend. While I don't remember the yuri being as blatant as something like Nanoha or Symphogear I do think it was more then just friendship. However I don't think I would consider it a yuri anime but rather an anime with yuri elements.

Where is Simoun? It's like the best Yuri show ever and it is explicitly Yuri unlike Madoka.

But, Girls und Panzers is Yuri now? Never had that impression.

At least Madoka has a lot of Yuri subtext but Girls und Panzers was just straight sports anime/tankery porn with cute girls

Also, Is the Order a Rabbit felt like a typical CGDCT show with some limited sexual subtext, I do not remember anything explicit. Lots of shows listed there are not proper Yuri.

It was heavily implied in the TV show and was confirmed in Rebellion. I am a little surprised that people still wonder that their relationship after the release of the movie and the Puella Magi Homura Tamura manga even regularly joked about how Homura was the most obsessed girlfriend in the universe. I wouldn't put it at the top of a yuri anime list but since it was an internet poll it was mostly about popularity.

Also word of god confirmed homura as being in love with madoka; people are better off arguing that nanoha is not yuri.

My sentiments exactly.
When stuff like Is this Order a Rabbit, Railgun, Ms. Koizumi loves Ramen Noodles, Aikatsu Friends!, Love Lab, Yuru Yuri, and Kakegurui of all things is on a list like this over actual yuri like Kannazuki(my favorite one), SP, Simoun, or even Aoi Hana, we've entered the Twilight Zone. One of the reasons why I absolutely detest the idea of "subtext" in certain anime. (Looking at you Nanoha and especially Madoka)

Japan is a strange country, indeed.

I deleted a bunch of one liners, pointless trolling, and some comments that were straight up homophobic.

You're free to think there are better yuri series than Madoka. You're also free to disagree with people's interpretations of Homura's feelings for Madoka as romantic.

But knock it off with the sarcastic "OMG why can't girls just be friends, do you have to make everything gay?!"/etc trolling. Also knock it off with any suggestions or hints that having gay content is somehow wrong or damaging to children.
