I've seen posts by some strange bird on GameFAQs who is actually defending this character choice, saying it's being done to attract potential new fans outside of Final Fantasy, but I don't really imagine anyone would equate Katy Perry with a famous game series. If we're talking turning real world people into visions for Rain and the others to summon, I think Hikaru Utada would have made much more sense.

They had Ariana Grande in it before so it's not like this is the first time they've done it.

I know, I play the game too. They used her because she's popular in Japan, and I was fine with that since it shows the concept of visions can draw on people from the real world too. This choice just seems a tad out there.

I think Katy Perry is popular in Japan too, and both stars have appeal in west and east. I think it makes sense as a continuation of what they started with Ariana.
I mean, I personally would not equate Ariana Grande nor Katy Perry with a famous game series, but, hey, I'm not the marketing staff, nor am I the target market for these events (as I'm not a fan of either singer).

Having someone like Katy Perry in a game franchise like this one is kinda of...odd.
But I think its great they're trying to make FF more mainstream.

To my knowledge she’s not THAT popular here. I mean not near the level of Ariana, Taylor Swift or Maraia Carey. It’s more like I think people just know her music but she doesn’t have so many hits here since California Girls back in 2010 to my knowledge.

Never thought I’d see Katy Perry and Sora referred to in the same title, but okay lol.
