In trying to improve and diversify my own collection I was wondering if there is any manga you could recommend that everyone should own. Imo the only one in my collection is Nausicaa Of The Valley Of Wind. There are others that I enjoy including GTO, OMG and Gunsmith Cats, but Nausicaa was the only one regardless of taste I could suggest to anyone.
What would you say could fit in this list or any other recommendations to improve my or anyone elses collection

I don't know...everyone has such different tastes. I would say Chobits and/or Rurouni Kenshin. I just think both of those titles are excellent. Maybe Planetes? I also have a soft spot for Demon Diary...

Hehe. I read Demon Diary and is also in my collection.
TOMATO!
Eh..I could recommend alot of good titles, but I guess I can say the "top 3" Dark Horse comics Berserk, Trigun, and Hellsing. Chobits and Kenshin are a must read. Probably Planetes if you could bear with it. Maybe Battle Angel Alita?
If you see something interesting just pick it up and read it. Chances are your bound to find something that suits your tastes.

Rurouni Kenshin, without a shadow of a doubt. As much as I enjoyed the TV series, it is nothing...absolutely nothing compared to the original manga. It's still a little slow at first, with the short story arcs and such. But those flow much better, with less fluff, and once the Kyoto Arc hits...wow...

I have a few more recommendations that people haven't already said, but obviously an excellent choice would be the Rurouni Kenshin manga.

Kodocha: Since the amazing TV series "Kodomo no Omocha" will never have a chance of getting over to the US this is the next best thing. Comedy, drama, and romance all filled onto 10 volumes with an emphasis on comedy.

Kare Kanno: Made by Anno who also made Evangelion. Great cast of characters and story. In my opinion it's better than the anime, which is entitled "His and Her Circumstances".

Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Stars: This is set in an alternate universe of the Bebop series. Same cast of characters, but different story than the orignal manga and TV series. I really enjoyed the new style of artwork.

I recommend the Saikano manga when it comes out....

the artwork is quite similar to the anime, and I heard the manga ending was more of a mind-f**k compared to the anime....that was enough hype to convince me to buy it....

Have got Chobits and thinking of getting Kenshin & Kare Kano. The only problem I have is I'm too impatient in waiting for the next volume to come out. Not knowing the amount of effort it takes in translation and everything, but I find waiting on average 2 months for the next volume annoying especially with a cliff hanger ending. I have the same problem with anime releases and hate having to wait usually a year to find out what happens in the end.

Have been thinking off getting Akira for a while and will get it eventually.

Haha. That's something all of us deal with! Everybody in Japan too.

Maybe to avoid this, maybe you should wait until all the volumes come out, then maybe you could get them in a nice boxset, or something. But, this would definately take away the whole waiting for a year for the next one to come out. It may take longer, but, you're not hanging off a cliff.

I love my Fist of the North Star: Master Editions.
If you enjoy the anime, you should really pick up this manga.

The rurouni Kenshin manga is good. I like Rave Master and I think its good but a lot of people would say otherwise.

If the release dates bother you, I'm sure there's some already fully released titles out there that you'd like. If you liked Chobits, perhaps you'd like Wish as well.

My friend introduced me to Magic Knight Rayearth (season one -anime; season two - manga) and I've fallen in love with it. I want to steal it from him now.
