From the article:
Quote: | There's also an (albeit hackneyed) explanation for why breeding can only be done via intercourse rather than artificial insemination. |
Better a hackneyed explanation than none at all, although it is a bad sign when the foundation of the plot is built on something so weak.

The premise is silly but I can live with that if it still provides a decent story. The first volume was better than I expected, but I think the "monogamy" plot is going to get old real fast, as it basically makes the least amount of sense of anything in the premise.
Also, a couple factual errors in the review. World's End Harem is the fourth book released by Seven Seas' Ghost Ship imprint, behind To Love-ru, To Love-ru Darkness and Yokai Girls, and ahead of the first volume of Yuuna.
Also, the review mentions two male survivors. We only meet two in the first volume, but my understanding is that we meet a few more in upcoming volumes.

I was ready to enjoy this sexy manga to the fullest, until it lapsed into absurdity in the first volume: The guy insists on having sex only with a woman he "loves". This is absurd, within the terms of the world he's landed in. If he doesn't have sex with many women, essentially throughout his whole lifetime, then he's undermining the only known chance for the human race to survive AND removing the only chance for heterosexual sex thousands of women will ever have.
The harms he will inflict by abstaining FAR outweigh the set of moral considerations left over from a world so different from the one he's found himself in as to negate them.
(Of course the author is just doing this as an easy way to build suspense, and possibly to avoid censorship.)

Nothing wrong with harem cheese, it's quite tasty!

As a manga reader there is at least one more Man but there's mention of they're being other potential males still on ice. After a bit the series starts bouncing back and forth between two male protagonists, the one we've met, and a high schooler who was bullied before begin is sent to a school of all girls and told, Get busy so he eventually does and becomes kinda a dick.
The series is...not bad but not great either. I appreciate it trying to do something different with the "I'll have sex with all the women, after I find this one first.". He never outright refuses to help, he just wants the first time to be with a specific someone and then he'll go and do whatever.

When I read the synopsis and review I wondered if that might be the case, and it seems you're confirming this is actually stated or strongly implied in volume 1? That makes sense to me, and if he's so important, you'd think they would make finding this woman a priority.
I'm reading a half dozen manga series and a light novel series atm but this might be a possibility for something different.

I like this manga for what it is and how it slowly develops. I'm wondering if it will be made into an anime someday. And if it did, what studio will animate it? Would the content even be appropriate for Japanese television? Would releasing it on OVA or online be a better option?
As they put it in the review, it's not strong enough to qualify it as hentai but when you think about it, the concept is just perfect for hentai (if the male protagonist was more interested in breeding with all these beautiful women). Personally, I wish they could make more hentai involving "re-population" and "breeding" as a means of sustaining life on their planet. I'm also a huge fan of harems.

huh this was a bit more interesting than I expected.
The last time I read a series with an extremely similar premise was an American comic "Y: The Last Man"
Hated the ending so here's to hoping this one doesn't disappoint either but I'm go in with the lowest of expectations.
Of course the Japanese version goes way overboard with the sexual content but clearly, the authors had a different vision in mind for 'entertainment'
That said I'm honestly surprised I don't find myself rolling my eyes at the MC, he's pretty naive but he doesn't seem too unbelievable.
I mean if I had a girl I really liked and promised to be with I'd like to think that I'd also be more than a little reluctant to screw random women even if it's for the greater good.
A few things that caught my attention is the mystery of #3. I'm gonna guess that #3 is probably a criminal or someone not mentally sound. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be a murderer and not a rapist because there really is no need to add more fetish material(although I'll bet they will) to the series.
That ties into my next observation, in a world where there's like billions(i forgot the actual number but like there's an absurd amount of women) of nubile young women that the author can possibly introduce why is incest gonna be an option? Ok so maybe I'm jumping the gun way too early as those small interactions can be seen as normal behaviour between healthy mentally sound siblings but like this IS a Japanese manga so I'm calling it now.
Then there's a loli bodyguard? Why? Well, I guess the artist needed to draw some girls without well-endowed figures but just as long as they keep things... legal... assuming in that world they didn't change the age of consent.
Finally, I'm gonna guess that the MC's handler was chosen because of her similar appearance to his crush or had surgery done to look like her. Maybe it was intentional on her part or maybe some higher ups did it without her consent, I highly doubt her physical appearance is coincidental
