Now, this was unexpected. Considering how badly (IMO) Seven Seas handled the release the first time, I hope this time it works better. Not really a fan of "omnibus" editions but better than nothing.

I think they've learned from their mistakes over the years a good amount, I know others might disagree but that's just how I feel. I'm hopeful that things will go better this time, plus now is the best time to do a new release because of the upcoming anime, so sales will hopefully go well.

When Boogiepop was originally released back in 2006, it was as a timed exclusive with Borders as it ensured a guaranteed amount of orders and shelf-based advertising in the stores. The problems some fans saw was when the exclusivity period ended and other booksellers opted to not stock those volumes, which is something we didn't have control over.

Cool, I hope the sales are good so the other novels get released too.

Yes! I loved the light novel series and I hope I'll be able to finish it this time. Boogiepop was always a fascinating series and putting the pieces of the story together was half the fun. Good on you, Seven Seas. You've made one fan happy.

It was a questionable move, and no matter how the company can justify it, the result was I couldn't buy the books for a year.
Also, I was also mentioning the questionable reboot changing the format of the books and putting a book out of order.
So, my opinion on how Seven Seas handled it back then hasn't changed.

Yeah. I still have my print copies so omnibus means I’d be buying over instead of picking up just the new volumes. It reminds me I had to buy the omnibus of Strawberry Panic because it was the only way to get the last novel. It didn't have the pretty colour pages so I had the other two novels still around too. I guess I can get eBooks since those will be single volumes. Still, that makes me want to re-buy the four I have already too. Plus it’s going to be long anticipation for 4 & 5 now. Other companies dealing with incompletely released series I've seen will release a volume wherever the series was left first, then catch up for new people coming in.
But Boogiepop!
12 years later I'm thankful really and hope it does well.

New Boogiepop novels? What a time to be alive. I hope they do well so we can get all of them (they're like 21 volumes and are still getting published in Japan )

A reminder that the anime is criminally underrated

Anyone who checks my post history can see how bitter I've been about the whole Boogiepop situation. It's been a long time coming but this is great news. I really hope with the new anime next year that the whole series can be translated this time. (Or admittedly get enough interest out of a fan translator. Seems like just about everything these days has a fan translation but Boogiepop.) It was such a cool concept to me back in early high school and Boogiepop and Others remains one of my favorite novels to this day. And that's why I've been so upset the series never continued in English.
I've always wondered why one of the founding fathers of light novels got the shaft when adapting them into anime has been such a trend these past few years, ever since the success of Haruhi Suzumiya and more recently Sword Art Online. Like I said, I'm really hopeful about the new anime bring Boogiepop some well-deserved attention.
Long story short I've got some really mixed bittersweet feelings. FINALLY getting novels 4 and 5 is fantastic, but after that I'm really hesitant to be excited. I don't want to be too optimistic for 7+ and the spinoffs. (Beat's Discipline always sounded really cool to me.) I just hope Seven Seas doesn't just see this as an opportunity to finally get some quick money out of their unused-til-now translations of 4 and 5 and then abandon ship again. I'm really hoping they see this a long term investment if they're not willing to give up the license to someone like Yen Press who does fantastic work with light novels.

We actually haven't been sitting on the translations for Novels 4 and 5 all this time. I brought back our original Boogiepop novel translator Andrew Cunningham and he translated them just this past year (December 2017 and February 2018). We also cleaned up and did new copy edits of novels 1-3 and 6.
If readers support our digital and omnibus releases, then we will do more Boogiepop.

Guess that was an assumption/misremembering of events on my part. Glad to hear the same translator is back for consistency's sake. And the possibility of more remains open.
