Honestly all these vids really show is that if you've seen one depiction of rural Japan, you've seen them all.

I said it before but Shinkai has a history of using real places for scenery in his movies, like many other anime have done. These were all probably inspired by the same locations.

There's a difference between directly ripping and paying homage.
Also didn't the other director get asked about this and basically say "Dude it's not a big deal"

People just need something to do I guess. Complaining and making false accusations seems to be the "it" thing right now.

I did not finish the video because the music was so annoying. Fail there, I guess. If these accusations have any basis, one creator has already defined the direction of inspiration. I hope this is not one of those cases where someone wants to hate on something that has become mainsteam and hugely popular. Make a better analysis and sound argument with more than these slides or video clip and I will be willing to listen. This feels like a pursuit of hits at this point.

The line between rip-off, homage, and inspiration can be blurred. If it is a public domain thing and you are making your own take on it, there's less of a chance of copyright infringement.

I hope he doesn't say anything. This is dumb, and a waste of his time. These depictions are all fairly standard depictions of rural Japan with fairly standard walk/run-cycles, etc. It's not plagiarism, or homage. Not to mention that the animators on Your Name have worked with these other people and are industry veterans who would never have a need to rip off something so silly.

Welp, I guess that settles it then. Both comparisons have girls running and falling down, as well as people putting together a rural Japanese festival with paper lanterns and signs. Not to mention the fact that there is clearly stairs in both comparisons.
I guess Your Name was a blatant ripoff after all huh? (Sarcasm)

the other video had some basis to its argument
this one is a big ol' stretch. Similar shots of people setting up a festival? aerial shots of said festival? I doubt niji-iro was the first movie to ever show such scenes

I honestly don't see how using public places in a show can be considered "ripping off"...
Creators shouldn't be bashed for using them in their shows whenever they the desire to.

Showing similar footage of people preparing for festivals = "OH MY GOD IT'S A PLAGIARISM!!!"
At this point it's just like finding faults and controversy over the recent popular anime film. I'm sure similar scenes shown in those two/three animes have been there in another anime as well.

Why not placing the English name of the first anime? If the series didn't had one, that would be one thing, but it has. Like why not call the "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" by its japanese name "Toki o Kakeru Shōjo", people would totally understand what movie is being talked about ... not!
For people that don't know, "Niji-Iro Hotaru ~Eien no Natsu Yasumi~" english name is "Rainbow Fireflies". Yep, so much better!
Also for the people that don't know, Rainbow Fireflies is a Toei Animation movie.

You know this is really sad. Both directors have already responded to this. Secondly, if you don't like the movie, that's fine. I mean think about the Gundam franchise. It's literally the same story with each series but different time periods and technology. Do we cry plagiarism? Of course not. What about every mecha, romance, fantasy, or sports anime? They follow the same plot for the most part. Do we cry plagiarism because the plot is similar or a character was inspired by someone? As for Mr. Shinkai, anybody who is familiar with his work should know what he likes and dislikes. I seriously doubt that he just woke up one day and decided to rip off another director's work. Are the two movies exact carbon copies? I mean unless I'm missing the point here.... If there's significant evidence that your name is a plagiarized work then I'd love to see that proof. Otherwise, this is just grasping for straws.
