Anyone who still thinks the Switch won't outsell the Wii U are going to be in for a surprise. The Wii U sold 13 million units in 4 years. The Switch has sold almost 5 million in 4 months, and that's with a supply shortage(And it's not an artificial one. Flash memory be damned.). All Nintendo has to do is keep pumping out quality games like they have been, and put Switch's on store shelves as fast as they can produce them, and it'll easily surpass the Wii U's lifetime sales in far less time.

Very good number, particularly considering the Nintendo Switch's often-occurring shortages.
As long as the NS keeps getting some quality titles, it will surpass the Wii U's sales.

Probably would be quite a bit higher if they were able to produce more. In my area it's nearly impossible to get ahold of one still.

No real excuse for the Switch's sales to be this low. They're great, but these shortages are really holding it back. Nintendo always has a tendency to hold itself back, doesn't it? Only way I was able to get mine was by keeping close track of product flow in my former occupation, from vendor to distribution to store. Ridiculous.

They aren't holding themselves back though. Blame Toshiba, they're the ones with the flash memory shortage that's causing this. And then blame Apple for paying more than Nintendo and getting bumped up the priority list.

With Super Mario Odyssey three months from now (and, to a lesser extent, bolstered by Sonic Forces), I can see that happening. A lot of third-party companies are also putting something on there. Well, a lot of Japanese ones. Western ones are still skeptical (and, looking at the Wii's history, some will forever be skeptical).
In addition, Nintendo filed a trademark for a "Pokémon Stars" for the Switch. Doesn't really mean anything right now though, as it doesn't necessarily mean they're working on a game.

Trademarks don't always turn into anything, but the core Pokemon game is in the development, The Pokemon Company confirmed that. It likely isn't Stars or some variation on that. Best guess is it's the next full generation.
