Oh my gosh, I forgot these existed!
I just found Guyver over the summer, and I'm a huge fan. Haven't heard too many things about the live-action movies besides Mark Hamil being involved and Guyver 2: Dark Hero being pretty decent.

The first one was a bit of camp from one of Brian Yuzna's old SFX men, and the second was taken over as a more straightforward Kamen Rider knockoff once 90's Power Rangers mania had caught on.
Nobody had heard of "manga" in those days, so no one knew how to market the concept of one of the few J-heroes anyone could have heard of...Back in the days when Coppola was still promising we'd get "Mai the Psychic Girl", and James Cameron was going to do Battle Angel by himself.
The "Limited Re-issue" makes it sound fancier than it is--Warner Archive basically MOD's anything on their catalogue, and if they know how to market something obscure that went direct-to-video the first time, it's a good chance to rediscover it.

While I am not a fan of the first live action Guyver, terrible use of Mark Hamil, the second Dark Hero was so much more epic and violent and dark like the original anime/manga. David Hayter was great as the main character and the fights were much more wicked! I wish it was a blu-ray release but I will take a DVD over my old VHS tapes I still have of them.

I could see Guyver being remade/rebooted. The 1991 movie was cool back then, but over the years I've realized how poorly made it was. Looking back, the reason I might have been drawn to Guyver was because it reminded me of a dark version of The Power Ranger.

This would have made me feel bad since I just imported the German bluray for Guyver 1. But Warner DVD mod...

Never saw them, but not surprised the sequel was darker and more violent as I recall it was rated R and the first was PG-13.

They oughta make a new Guyver series.
At least, IMO.

The manga would have to update first.

I think they could animate up to a point, but yeah, releases have been slow, the last chapter was released in April this year.

I could never get through the first movie, its too unbearable to watch. However I've always liked the second ever since I saw it on the Sci-fi channel in the 90's. I knew nothing about Guyver back then, it was just a cool movie.

I may have to get this. I have both on VHS, and I think I might have them on a DVD set. I will have to check when I get back home, and may have to order them.

I haven't seen ether of these movies since the 90s so I guess now is a good time if any to refresh my memory.

To be fair Hamill wasn't really know for anything else outside of Star Wars and Batman TAS.

If nothing else, the suit designs for the Guyver unit and the Zoanoids were pretty cool.

Any idea if Guyver 2 will be widescreen? I'm hoping it isn't since the movie was natively 4:3. For the previous DVD release they cropped the image to make it 16:9 which I wasn't happy with.
