I don't really know what to feel right now! I wish it was another animated movie. I also really love Oguri Shun.....
I'm just hoping they don't ruin it. I love Gintama way too much for them to halfass it. I'm a little uneasy but I'm hoping it all works out! |

Sad, silent weep.
Well, they'd better do it right. This thing had better be hilarious, and here's hoping that Shun Oguri can capture even a fracture of the brilliance that is Tomokazu Sugita in this role. ( Not badmouthing Oguri, just saying that there is no other Gintoki besides Sugita for me. ) Hope this turns out good. |

Not surprised at all, I had a feeling it would be live action given it's becoming more and more popular every year.

So long as they point out that its live action and don't skimp on the fourth wall breaking, I'm game.
Although now that I think about it, maybe Deadpool's success has something to do with this. They have similar takes on comedy and similar treatment of their universe, although Gintama takes it far further. |

Aw I was hoping for an animated film. Oguri is good and all but even his Lupin couldn't save the live action Lupin III.

The real question is: Who will they get to play Kagura? She's probably the second most important character (sorry, Shinpachi. I love you, but to your manga-ka, you're just a pair of glasses )

Not that I like this idea, but since this cannot be avoided, then okay. Especially that HK was a good thing in terms of manga spirit.
The thing is... how random the movie can be, and what it gets from the manga? You know, cause Gintama can be a total mess (in good way) when in comes to the comedy plot, or it can be the straight action-packed shounen. Do they adapt the one of the serious arcs (or do some original) or it will be the comedy? |

It could work... Gintama can get away with having an original story i think. As long as they get the characters right and its hilarious then i am sure it would be a good adaption. But still, Japan screws up all the time like Hollywood and the only good manga adapted movie I've seen is Rurouni Kenshin movies.

Hell NO!!!!!
No Sugita Tomokazu, no Kugimiya Rie, no Sakaguchi Daisuke, no Gintama. Even the secondary characters like Hijikata, Madao, Zura and Gorilla are irreplacable to me. In acting, directing and scripting terms, japanese live-action level of quality is nowhere near the anime level, and they want to adapt one of the best anime ever made? Preposterous. The director they chose has done the awful Hentai Kamen, a good indication on how terrible this is going to be. |
