Very interesting; I should not have been surprised by Sailor Moon's popularity as it was, after all, originally aimed at little girls.

Such awesome displays of Sailor Moon artwork and proplicas within the exhibit! It's a total shame that the exhibit won't let anyone take pictures of the areas where they've prohibited camera use.

@nobahn
I heard it was aimed more for older girls at ages 8-16, but then again, Japanese TV had different standards than the US for the time...

A little tidbit about Toei cels -
Toei was not kind to Sailor Moon during the 2000s. If you had gone to the Toei Museum at the time, you would have seen that Toei had their Sailor Moon merchandise crammed into one obscure corner on the first floor, which was right under a very sunny window. Toei did not give a care about SM then. In comparison, Dragonball and One Piece statues and various merchandise were afforded prominent positions all throughout the museum. Although I'm not the emotional type, I cried in the museum because it made me sad that the Sailot Moon stuff had been torn up and discarded. Especially the cels. Toei made framed displays that were made with sliced up materials.
Another thing with Toei is that they used the cheapest ink possible for their cels. So although not noted in this article, those who have visited the exhibit may have noticed that the lines on the cels look brown. Most Sailor Moon cels have some degree of line fading.

There's plenty of "prohibited" pictures online, I've seen a ton of them. As an example, most of the props from the stage musicals in the exhibit look like cheaply made cosplay items, I think one or two things were even glorified cardboard.

I went to this last month, very nice showing.
I know it's ending soon, but for anyone going before then:
- You need your ticket to get into the shop at the end, so make sure not to misplace it
- If it's raining and you bring an umbrella, keep in mind the entrance and exit are not near each other, so don't forget to go back for it
- There's a great fresco exhibit from Pompeii right next to the Sailor Moon exhibit. I recommend checking that out as well

This must be what heaven looks like. I've never wanted to go to Japan more than I do now. I mean I've always to go, but now even more so
