I sure hope this hasn't been talked about here, but I just ran across one of the most, if not the most, creepy and (I hate to admit) a logical progression of the Anime obsessive.
The live anime girl! I present to you www.anigao.com. Go ahead. Overwhelm his/her server. Last edited by chicogrande on Thu Aug 23, 2007 3:24 pm; edited 1 time in total |

that's the creepist thing I've seen in a while, I'm imagining people coming out of the suit to strangle me. Anyone reminded of the chucky movies?

I saw two of those at Otakon. They let me give them a hug and my friend took a picture. They were so cute! Now THATS cosplay!

While the basic concept is older than the Internet itself -- here finally is a product. And yes. That is creepy. The next step will naturally incorporate robots -- which much progress has been done -- and y'get fully animated products. In a sense, that'll be the real-life Persocoms right there.
That's Technology for you. |

Am I the only one who's not creeped out by this? It seems more like the next step of otaku evolution to me. Anime girl robots or persocoms. Or very acurate cosplay masks.

The creepy part is when you discover it's probably some sweaty 40-year-old guy under the mask.

Dollers, eh...? The kigurumi phenomenon takes on a lot of shapes, including this one. Be aware that there isn't necessarily a sexual element to this practice, though the inference is easy to make.
If I may be allowed a moment of open-mindedness in this forum (where a surprisingly mainstream sexual attitude prevails, considering the many forms of paraphilia that manifest themselves in the anime world), I'd like to point out that the sexual deviation from the norm is governed by the same principle as political or philosophical deviation: "If you can imagine an act of abnormal sex (or a weird philosophical or political stance), then someone, somewhere, is practicing it -- and enjoying it." - abunai |

I'm sure you're kidding, but that's not the body of a sweaty 40-year old guy that were looking at. I'm actually kinda impressed by the female performer. She's doing a fair amount of pantomine that is effectively projecting her character/s. There's a great deal of theatrics involved in this. This takes cosplay to a whole different level, imo. I like the fact also that, as far as I can tell, the material is PG. Another thing I found out was that she has a presence in YouTube. You can subscribe to "anigaogirls." Edit: The obvious question should be: where do you find those masks? |

As long as they don't take it off it's OKAY.

Thing is, you aren't that far off the mark. More often than not there's a guy under that mask. In fact I don't think I recall too many women doing this. The big mask and wig along with what's often baggy clothes and tight body suits, throw off your sense of proportion giving them more slender look. Yes, it's creepy, but it's also quite common, I've seen a lot of these, some are original character, others are based on anime and manga characters. Sailor Moon seems to be a favorite. Emerje |

Slightly less creepy than Kigurumi are your old life-size dolls
