Clearly a reference to Metroid Other M, a game deserving of a thumbs down.

The bit about the amiibo at the end reminds me of how I'm deliberately looking for a defective amiibo--not for the increased price, but because they used to be frequently detached from their stands, and I want to use the bare stand to put a non-Nintendo figurine onto it.
The thumbs-down Mario Bros. are definitely worth a chuckle though. They gladly disapprove of you!

Now just imagine Mario saying all his usual encouraging lines with a thumbs down. Ouch. XD

But I liked that game Shame on me.
Those defective toys might be valuable sometime, though.

If you observe closely, the defective Mario's hand is just rotated (his fingers are facing out), but defective Luigi actually has a left hand placed on his right arm, as although he's giving thumbs down, the back of his hand is facing out. Luigi probably has Mario's hand.

That thumbs down looks painful.

It's even funnier when you remember that a "thumbs down" is basically the same thing as "flipping someone off", depending on who you ask

Upon closer observation I could tell that the hands were manipulation to make that "thumbs-down" version of the figures. In the third picture of Mario's thumbs-down figure, there seems to be some superglue residue on his sweater.
