This is definitely a step in the right direction providing basic DVD/Blu-ray releases, though unless the show is an absolute favorite the price is still a bit too steep for me. The prices are only a few dollars more expensive than Aniplex's basic DVD/Bluray releases of Kill La Kill, but I love Kill la Kill and still found it hard to push the checkout button on those basic blu-rays.
Edit: Didn't notice the lack of a dub. Makes the Kill la Kill comparison not quite as good. Last edited by Barbobot on Mon Oct 12, 2015 12:12 pm; edited 1 time in total |

So the 1st of the 4 titles that Ponycan stated they have plans to dub is released sub only =/ Was looking forward to buying these sets and watching the anime if it was dubbed but I'll pass once again just like I did with all their other sets expect for Yuki Yuna.
Glad to see them release cheaper standard sets as people were asking for that, they are still quite pricy but it's a cheaper alternative to those who don't want the collectors editions or its prices. To be fair though they did state that it was dependent on how each title performed and I admit I'm no expert on how Rokka did but this doesn't bode well for the other 3 releases that they had plans for. Sound Euphonium has to be a lock for the dub treatment as its the closest to a big hit that ponycan has and needs and would further explain why Rokka which aired AFTER Euphonium did is getting its sets released first however the other 2 either fairly or unfairly I worry about. Hopefully that's not the case and the remaining 3 get the dub treatment but I kinda wish they kept the fact that they had plans to dub them a secret as I feel like it's just setting up for huge disappointment for dub fans Just my rant haha |

I also agree that offering standard BD and DVD editions is a step in the right direction. I hope PONYCAN offers standard editions for Sound Euphonium! and all of their future releases.
And I wish ANN had reported this on Saturday. I know that everybody is busy, but this piece of news seem important. |

Standard editions in Blu-Ray & DVD, one step in the right direction. Still a ways to go, pricing is too high per episode for a subtitled release. Still not matching the North American Standard format of 12 episodes per regular release.
Again, it's better but it still gets the "Orson Welles' Slow Applause" award. Mark Gosdin |

I doubt PONYCAN will one day adjust to the pricing of the Sentais and Funimations. Less expensive standard editions might go as far as they go. After all $10-15 per episode on BD and $5-7 per episode on DVD seems to be working fine for Aniplex USA. |

Am I the only one who found the addition of "The New Hit Fantasy Mystery Series! " in the article hilarious considering the series sold like a wet paper bag in Japan?
It's better in the same sense as getting shot is better then being at the center of a nuclear strike. The basic dvd and BD are exactly the same with the exception of the disk its stored on yet there is a 25% price difference between the two. A blu ray disk does not cost 10 extra dollars to manufacture. This doesn't sit right with me for some reason.
Only on shows with a rabid obsessed fanbase. Notice they still release lower priced series and the quantity of titles they put out is minimal compared to the other companies. 90% of Anime would bomb financially in the US if you tried to sell it for that much. Go ask bandai and see how that worked out for them. |

It would be nice if they would, but you are probably right. If they were to realize that they needed to sell like Sentai or Funimation then they would likely close up shop and go back to just licensing their series. Rather like Bandai did. I have exactly one Aniplex title, the Collector's Edition of the first season of Oreimo. That worked out to be about $4 per episode with some nice extras in a nice box. If they had kept their subsequent release pricing & value close to that package then I'd likely have several more of their series, but that did not happen. Mark Gosdin |

I wouldn't hold your breath. animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=4647572#4647572 I, too, laughed at the designation of this show as a "hit," but in the eyes of copywriters trying to move product, every show is a hit. |

It's just marketing buzzwords. No one's gonna advertise their show as "The New Lukewarm-ly received Mystery Fantasy Series".

No dub no buy with this one. Rokka would be a perfect show to dub, I feel like it was enough of a success to warrant one.

I'm amazed at people saying this is great because we have lower priced editions. Wrong. We have 2 very expensive editions.
42 dollars for a 4 episode dvd is very costly 52 dollars for a 4 episode blu-ray is extremely costly. And this is for barebone editions mind you. We're squarely in Aniplex territory and Ponycan is not a low cost alternative to Aniplex. |

For a few moments, when I first saw the pricing, I thought it was for the whole season. I thought, "Ah, that's not too bad at all. I think I'm going to end up buying this since I did like the series...."
Yeah... then I realized that this was for FOUR episodes. You, Ponycan, can go stand over there with Aniplex. It's the DIAF line, and while Aniplex is ahead of you in that line, you *are* still in that line. No way in Hell am I paying that kind of price for 4 freaking episodes. |
