If this ever gets an anime, I imagine no licensor in the West will want to touch it with a ten foot pole.

No one wants to touch Saint Young Men, despite it being fairly innocuous in comparison. No way in hell this gets touched. |

You can say what you want but this is without a doubt fascinating. I will need to read this now!
Bible/religions manga/comics are the older hat btw. Look up Ed Benes´s CRAZY 90s Jesus comic here http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2009/04/09/my-favorite-mid-90s-bad-ass-jesus-comic/ and read Tezuka´s 10/10 Buddha. My library even has Saint Young Men (it is internationally released after all and the anime film exists) but it´s sadly a bit generic and a manga with such a premise shouldn´t be. There is also Afghanistan http://animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=6654 and a sequel named Pakistan but they generic too. I don´t find this news story frankly that crazy i have to say. Nyaruko: Crawling with Love is WAY more crazy. Go home Xebec you drunk! (And you suck.) |

This one reminds me of Power Mark Comics where I used to read during my childhood alongside with the comic version of The New Testament.

I guess it really depends how it's handled. The fact that's it's appearing in a Christian magazine makes it more likely that depictions will be somewhat accurate and the content genuinely fun instead of mean-spirited.
I dunno. As a Christian, I'm okay with it overall. Although I'm sure the fandom will inevitably ruin it for me, the way the Hetalia fandom ruined Hetalia. |

Bah, there's Jesus porn out there. Can't get much more sacrilegious than that. |

Ah you guys. Good old Charlie Hebdo had covers as http://qz.com/322550/charlie-hebdo-has-had-more-legal-run-ins-with-christians-than-with-muslims/ so this manga is the defintion of harmless. I even know of hentai with Bin Laden as a lead (why japan why?) so Rule34 is only hours away for this poor girl too as "she" (it?) is 11/10 cute . 4chan will further be scanlation this within the week of release with is´s own subthread and i may show up too. The internet.
It taints us all. How did i not know of Windows 8-chan before? That is the true question. |

We New England Lutherans have to put up with enough guff over HERE from people who don't know what the whole Missouri grudge is about; I wouldn't expect Japan to have a clearer idea of specific Protestant denominations either.
Although I wouldn't mind a nice moe girl in a German dirndl holding a green-bean casserole, and with an odd habit of putting long post-it lists of complaints on people's foreheads. Usually, the minority image of Christians, not to mention old Nobunaga issues, tends to depict Christians in anime/manga as dimly clueless Catholic priests or saintly passive nuns, giving naive and toothless generic messages about "the power of love!" I'm guessing they're not going into a detailed analysis of Presbyterians vs. Methodists. Last edited by EricJ2 on Sun Apr 12, 2015 11:10 am; edited 2 times in total |

If Christianity is in the minority why are there so many nuns and priests and vampires (Christian/pagan bad guys) in manga and anime?

Not to mention Spice & Wolf's central concept of "But wouldn't it hurt all those Shinto gods' feelings, to put them out of work because of some invading military conqueror's monotheistic religion?... " |

Since it is a small minority, Christian mythology is not emotionally loaded. They can do what they want with it. On the other hand, the Japanese are sufficiently familiar with it that not everything needs to be explained. Also they are familiar with vampires and other western monsters through our movies shown in Japan. |
