Excited.........But really nervous after seeing that frame on 0:22. Its hilariously bad compared to the original DVD's facial design of Marielle. Its Rolling Girls type bad. If there are more frames in the final product made like that, then no buy from me since I can still enjoy my original steel artbox DVD's. Don't care if its Funimations or Japans original remaster, that doesnt slide for me.

The HD remaster looks very good IMO. I think it's worth it for me to get this on blu-ray.

It'll be interesting to see how well this holds up to my "OMG THIS IS AWESOME" memories from aaaages ago.

The picture quality looks nice and I really like Noir so this is a definite pre-order for me.

I appreciate this comparison video, but I would have appreciated more if Funimation had done a nice, special edition (in standard size please) release of this great anime.
I am still buying this BD release down the line though. |

Love Noir but I really don't think it'll look that much better on BD. Heck the only noticeable thing that I noticed in the various comparisons was the color changes between version (easily seen with Kirika's hair). I never listened to the dub, so I was completely thrown off how Kirika pronounced Mireille's name. How hard could it have been to spend 2 seconds looking up how her name should be pronounced? It's unfathomably incompetent, but I suppose that's to be expected for ADV early dubs.

It only looks the same in that preview because you're looking at a highly compressed YouTube video with both sample videos being shrunk down for a comparison. But at quick glance I can still see can see much better line detail and color correction in the BD version. Even looks like the overscan cropping was done better, which is quite common for remasters.
I am of the opposite opinion, if you really enjoy Noir why wouldn't you go for the BD? They don't even have to manufacture bullshit like they did with the DBZ box or like Viz did with the Sailor Moon box. Sure the upgrade isn't quite as dramatic as we've seen with other releases (and like we will see with Outlaw Star), but the quality difference is still there. That it's from an analog source, and probably one of the last ones in anime, should be reason enough. |

The japanese doesn't pronounce it right either. It would be incompetent if they would'nt keep consistency with saying a specific pronounciation of the word. Like how Rob Mungle had to say, "Famiglia." Incorrectly because 4 hours of recording has already been done with a specific pronounciation with the G sound. Its pronounced wrong, but they made sure for every actor to say it in a specific pronounciation. This isn't S1 Clannad or Central Park/Manga Entertainment dubs where they actually were incompetent to not stick to one pronounciation, wrong or not. This is one of better dubs. Hell, everytime I see shopper reviews on funimation titles originally licensed by ADV. They assume that the Funimation studio actually dubbed it with flying colors. Sure they had to be corrected, but they could'nt hide away there impression of it being a great dub. |

To my shock, I actually saw appreciably improvements from the high definition version. I usually have an appallingly bad eye for this sort of thing.
Noir is a dear series to me, so it's quite likely that I will purchase this release. My ADV volumes, bought at roughly $25 a piece, which was the sale price, shall continue to be a happy memento, but this seems like it could worth buying. Damned preposterous scene they chose for the trailer. There's plenty in the series that is far from any kind of realism, but that one... oy vey. It nearly makes me wonder if Kōichi Mashimo was making some strange attempt at Brechtian epic theater.
At the time ADV's producers stated that it was the Corsican pronunciation of Mireille. (There were objections raised to the pronounciation of, "soldats," too) I don't know much about Corsican, so I can't attest to that, but this seems like a rather tedious, 'criticism-as-accounting' complaint. I've always found the English version to be well-acted and evocative, so in the face of that, whether the pronunciation is strictly correct comes off as telling me that I should've entered 4 in box 7B of schedule Q-93i, not 7 is box L8 of schedule O-851. It's the kind of reaction that makes me think that language preference is in some significant part not about quality, but some kind of prestige signaling. I'd have picked something with a lot of technical little details. Those always shine through wondrously on BD. |

I forget where I saw it or read it, but Matt Greenfield said when they made the dub that they decided to pronounce Mireille's name the way Mireille would have pronounced it, instead of the way it's pronounced in the Japanese dub. The ironic thing, of course, is that the Japanese dub gets it right, and the ADV dub gets it hilariously, annoyingly, incompetently wrong. I own the ADV DVDs and always watch it with Japanese audio for that very reason. Obviously, there was no one at ADV who spoke Spanish, French, or Italian and would have known that "ill" is pronounced like "y." |

Screaming @ all of this right now.
I do not have a blu-ray player but I own the original thinpak set (which....unlike ADV's other releases...actually had all of the extras intact). Some parts don't look much different but that one shot of Shaoli looks quite different in the remastered version. |
