LOL I have actually known about this page for a while; nice to see it get a write-up on ANN. It is quite cool to see a Shonen Jump history told in cover scans.

It is really fun and fascinating to see the change in styles and characters over the decades with something like this!! A few years back I started my own collection of manga magazine cover scans (more shoujo-focused), gathering images found from online auctions sites and so on. For me it was just a personal collection (I didn't reupload anywhere), but in the process I discovered, and contributed a few of my findings to, this lovely archive for Hana to Yume covers: http://hanacov.angelicvoice.org

Oh hey, I've had this page favorited for a long time on my computer. I believe me and Doomydoomdoom found out about Kami Sama Explorer through the same place (Kanzenshuu). Definitely a good collection of SJ covers in there.

I think the question was more about where 1978's covers are. I guess that's just a big gap that has to get filled. Honestly some of my favorite covers are the ones early each year where the mangaka themselves grace the covers. I see that it was done up through 1996, but I wonder if Jump still does that now. It's a cool way to see who's actually making the manga people enjoy. Overall, though, it is an awesome page to check out. I do find it interesting, though, that Ring ni Kakero & Dragon Ball's final chapters (the first two to have full-color final chapters) didn't make their respective magazines covers, but Slam Dunk did in its final chapter (the 3rd, & most recent, full-color FC); RnK & DB had small mentions of their final chapters on the covers. The issue after DB's end, though, is awesome: Shaq vs. Hanamichi! |

Well Slam Dunk must be the only series to get a cover for it's final chapter.
Because none of the series that helped make Jump so famous did either Kinnikuman Dr Slump Cat's Eye Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) City Hunter Sakigake Otokojuku Kimagure Orange Road Captain Tsubasa High School Kimen Gumi Ginga Nagareboshi Gin Cobra Rokudenashi Blues Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken Magical Taruto Kun Saint Seiya Yu Yu Hakusho etc... |
