Symphogear actually pulled a Nanoha where the second season is higher than the first. That's....pretty nuts! I can't imagine what kind of numbers they'll pull if they decide to do a season 3.
Now if only someone legally streams the damn series already, seriously! |

Its nice to see 10.9k sales for Symphogear, here is hoping the 2nd week can bring it to atleast 12k, or maybe even 13k(I can always hope)

And to no ones surprise, Watamote flops and doesn't even rank on a low threshold week.

Symphogear looks high because there is no popular release this week. Some weeks, 10k won't break top 5. lol

Everybody knows rankings don't matter. But 10.9k in its first week rather high. It more than doubled its first week sales of S1(4.4k) |

Genshiken (809) and C3-bu (267) sold like garbage as well. So what does Gainax do now? Do they even get residuals from their past success or does Anno get that money? At this rate, they're going to be a dump studio like DEEN and GONZO.

Uh, yeah, lol at everything you just wrote because this is the definition of having no idea what you're talking about. In fact, Symphogear G is currently the 3rd best-selling show of the season. It'll be knocked down to 4th when Monogatari releases, but none of the yet-to-be-released shows are likely to sell anything worth mentioning as far as I'm aware. 10k is a clear success (also notable that this is a lot higher than the first season sold) and usually being 10k puts a show in the top 5 for the *season*, not to mention whatever week it happens to come out. For all of 2012 and 2013, Fall 2012 was the only season in which a show sold 10k+ and wasn't in the top 5. Going back farther, Spring and Fall tend to have more 10k+ sellers, but usually only 6 total. And I believe that's by total sales, not just first week. Pretty sure that even there, 10k in the first week would've been in the top 5, at least most of the time.
C3-bu actually has the dubious honor of being the worst selling show *on record*. Emphasis on "on record" |

Isnt Gainax a dump studio already? The only talented person left at that studio is Hiroyuki Yamaga, and he cant even get his movie funded. At least studio DEEN has Ken'ichi ishikura,Mamoru Hatekayama and Tomomi Mochizuki working for them,so they are in much better position than these two studios. |

And it wasn't necessarily a cheap show when you look at it, Gainax did put some effort in, so I can imagine the budget wasn't meager like Kill Me Baby. Either no one watched it, or some kind of "ignore Gainax" campaign was afoot, because a show like that selling so poorly is almost unprecedented. It sold leagues below Upotte, and that anime didn't even have a proper TV airing first run.
Aye, I have no idea where that confidence in getting the Honneamise sequel comes from. Keeping up a positive PR facade? It's not like the 87 film is a rousing success story either, it cost Yamaga his directorship for over a decade. |

It's unusual for a show to do that badly, but probably not unprecedented. There are a number of shows for which we have no numbers at all, we just get more numbers more recently, so we can actually see some of the ones that do this poorly. I don't think "it changed things from the manga" is enough to explain it, but it's possible that Yura's character arc for the anime factored into that. Also, re:Gainax, remember that the Gainax studio of today has little to nothing in common with the Gainax of old. I believe at least a few key people from old Gainax are now at Trigger (such as Imaishi, which is why you get all of the Gurren Lagann/Kill La Kill comparisons). |

I'm sure C3-bu sold more than Arata Kangatari.
