Robotech is in the [Not Anime But Related] section, which the link has been removed of for the time being. |

Hardly. While the original three series were produced and animated in Japan by Tatsunoko, the combined story had been rewritten by Harmony Gold, not to mention the original three series were only vaguely related (Southern Cross was considered as the third installment of "Super Dimensional" series while Mospeada was influenced by Macross, but neither was related story-wise). Before anyone else gives you a more detailed answer you can read its Wikipedia entry for more information:

But the "Search" function will bring up the link for Robotech's entry as well as any other [NA,BR] entry. |

yes, it is an anime. Robotech is composed of 3 different Macross series and "produced" by Harmony Gold. Robotech was americanized a lot so it seemed like it's not an anime at all. The American opening of Robotech didn't contain the credits for the japanese creators because they wanted the audience to think it was created by harmony gold. You can find the link for robotech by pressing the SDF Macross link and then click the link for Robotech on top of the page Last edited by Nerv1 on Mon Nov 20, 2006 1:56 am; edited 1 time in total |

Mr. Nerv1 Oxymoron, I presume?
Would you please read my post before replying with such a ridiculous nonsense? |

I understand that the first was just a typo, but it seems that you haven't realized the three parts of Robotech are not related in their respective original forms, and only the first one is part of Macross saga. |

I think Robotech is an incredibly unique case (since I can't think of anything "similar" off-hand after trying for a little while).
Unlike Thundercats or some other US shows, it was originally intended for Japanese audiences, rather than US audiences like TCs, altho both were animated in Japan. However, unlike shows like DBZ or Sailor Moon (which were editted), Robotech saw significant changes to the underlying story and (as noted) actually combined 3 entirely separate shows into one mixture. To be fair to Robotech, I think the "Macross Saga" is as close to the original as say, Sailor Moon's US release. In the end, whether or not it is "anime" I think depends on where you set the definition. It's not as far as the "all animation is anime" guide point, but not as near as the "animation made FOR Japanese people is anime" guide point. Not to derail the thread, but I think it IS one of the few shows for which a compelling argument could be raised whether it is or is not "anime". |

Voltron would be a similar case, having been pinned together out of two or three unrelated series. (Counting the lion team and the vehicle team, which seems to have been forgotten recently...) I think "anime related" is a good place for either on a site like this, though.

So was it simply rewritten? If it was just a script/editing issue, then it is anime, because what we're actually watching on the screen is an anime series, animated and produced in Japan, having originally aired in Japan.
If they just took the source material, rewrote it, reedited it, basically reDREW it, then yeah, I can see how it cant be anime. Because from the way you and Wiki (a VERY trusted source, might I add ) make it sound, it just got the Once Piece/Sailormoon/DBZ treatment, that is, it got cut apart, and rewritten so much it barely resembles the source material. |
