Yes, but when that's the theme of the show for 11 years, don't you think that it's getting a little monotonous? In my mind, an exceelent review, seeing as I'm glad that I walked away from this franchise about 7 years ago and that my money has gone towards more "productive" things. And I also agree that it's not so necessary to take out the original Japanese songs, who's ever heard of some of the artists featured in the English soundtrack? However, I see that the target audience has been and always will be the younger age groups, and since we're always having kids and stuff like that to support this billion dollar franchise, it probably won't go away unless it does something stupid. Unlike Yugioh, this thing is like Energizer, It keeps going, and going, and going..... |

Like, wow. I never see Pokemon titles reviewed here. The only other one I can find was this, which doesn't it even say who wrote it... Review seemed good. I haven't seen this movie yet, but I generally only watch the Pokemon movies now since they're far more interesting than the ongoing anime, which gets extremely boring (seen around 300 something episodes, I honestly don't know what I was thinking...).
Btw, I doubt anybody really cares, but Diamond and Pearl came out a little over a month ago in Japan. These are all the new Pokemon if anybody wants to see them... Edit: I have 2000 posts, how nice. I have officially spent too much time on these forums. |

I'm confused. Was this movie dubbed before or after Pokemon USA bought the rights to the series from 4Kids? Does it still use 4Kids' VAs or does it have the new cast? If it uses the original VAs, I'll definitely check out the dub, but I might just look for a fansub of this movie if they're using the new VAs.

The movie uses the old VAs, but the new voice cast is featured in the 10th anniversary special included. Anyway, I hate when people call it a kids show, because I watch it regularly and I'm 17. I also play the games. Anime fans just love to bash Pokemon, and that's why I hate the fans who do. |

Just because you watch it, doesn't mean that the show isn't a show for kids. But as a fellow Pokemon fan myself, I do know where you're coming from when you make a statement like that. With that aside, I enjoyed that review, as it was pretty unbiased and true. It's always good to see a Pokemon reivew, especially on one of the best Pokemon movies out of the ones released to date. |

i really want to buy this. Even though I don't watch the show anymore (I don't like the new va's) I still want to get the movies because they're a nice break from the ordinary...or at least for the frist half as the reviewer said.
I do however plan to wait until its in the sale bin. |

Nice to see other old-folk Pokemon fans who aren't afraid to step out of the closet.
Haven't seen this yet, but I did like the premise. Sub's waiting on my hard drive now. I wish ANN could review subs too-- I know it's next to impossible, but I'd like to see how they compare; as I understand 4Kids was beginning to get a bit better in adapting the movies (at least, compared to such works as the first and fourth movies). Also wondering if this release is in fullscreen or widescreen. |

Um, Pokemon is a children's show. It was made to be targeted at children, that's a fact. Carlo wasn't "bashing" it by calling it a children's show, because that's what it is. This doesn't mean in anyway that it can only be enjoyed by children. Only until recently (about 2 or 3 years ago) I was enjoying it and I'm 21 right now. I mean... look at the age of some of the Naruto fans, and that's also aimed at children... There really is nothing wrong with it. It's just that people feel insecure and that it's "uncool" to like children's stuff. I say, do what you like, which is what should matter the most anyway. |

Pokemon is a series aimed at children. They put enough work into the franchise that I believe they could easily create a complicated storyline, with intricate details and lots of drama for a future movie. But "they" (whoever "they" would be - writers, directors...?) are afraid of alienating the 11-and-under crowd who love the franchise, so they dumb down the storylines enough to fit the minds of younger kids. From what this review says, it seems like this movie has a great history and plot, but was liquified into a more basic format, as not to confuse the little tykes who make up the main fanbase.
With the coming of the Pearl+Diamond games, I've actually been wondering what's up with this franchise - I've only seen one episode in over three years (to see what the new VA's were like - which is, not good), and haven't seen any of the movies after the third one. This DVD seems like it may be worth checking out, once the price lowers on eBay.... |

I got this a while back. Infact I think I bought this movie along when I bought Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue. Speaking of Which I like Pokemon Ranger.
The movie itself was cheap, like $15 at a Canadian Toys"R"Us. For what it was I liked it. I actually got to hear the new voice cast for Mastermind Of Pokemon(Aparently the Ash on the DVD, and the Ash from the Kid's WB airing are differnt, it shows, I like this one better) and to hear the cast more fit into their voice roles. All seemed good, especially since I recall Team Rocket's voice actors changed alot during the first couple of seasons. |

Pokemon is a kid's show. The games they were based on were rated E, for goodness' sake. But just because something is for kids doesn't mean that's it immature for adults to like it. I'm 21 and while I don't like Pokemon as much as I used to (I still love the movies, though), I love children's anime almost as much as I do adult anime, if not more. Personally, I think that any anime with an entertaining storyline and characters but clean content is far more enjoyable than a graphically violent anime with an excessive amount of pointless fanservice that has little to no plot or character development. If adults couldn't enjoy children's animation because they were "too old", then Disney would've been out of business a long time ago and Spirited Away never would've won that Oscar.

It was always intended to be a kid's show. The games too. I mean they don't have a Teen rating for God's sake and the age rating for the shows and movies on this site is "All ages". Anyway this movie was REALLY good. Especially for a Pokemon film. Solid story, excellent background music, and the story actually didn't revolve around the Pokemon. I think this movie may be a shining ray of hope for Pokemon |

Well, only my close friends know that I still watch Pokémon, so in real life, I wouldn't be so vocal about it. In terms of the internet, it's not too big of a deal, as most (if not every) anime fan has his or her own personal favourite series, for whatever reason, along with the fact that this is the internet. & out of curiosity to those who actually bought the movie: Are the new voice-overs for the Mirage special any better than the ones initially used? |

Jesus,is it really that hard to get a COMPLETELY unbiased review when it comes to anything Pokemon? Why is it that you always find some snide remarks that take a jab at the "fad",fanbase, toys, anime, etc.
News Flash:there's a sh*tload of Naruto and Bleach merchandise being pushed at your local Hot Topic stores. So why does Pokemon get all the heat for being a commercial series? Almost all anime is commercial. Also,if Pokemon is always being singled-out as a kid's show, then please start applying that same kind of logic to shows like Naruto.Because we all know damn well that franchise is aimed at kids as well, but we almost never see anybody *continually* point out how "those kiddies" sure love their Naruto.
The same can be said about Naruto,One Piece,DBZ,etc. But again, people like to single-out Pokemon. |
