Anyone else think this totally sounds like a Resident Evil corporation? I mean, I expect that some time in the future they'll be developing biochemical products that secretly turn people in to zombies. Can't you just see it? "GENEON: Building Tomorrow Through Science."

Well...ya know...there is a billion years there in the name. Maybe they just want to make sure that the same people will be working there forever.
(Don't be fooled by the stocks that I got. I'm still, I'm still Geneon the block!)

Yeah, at first I thought it said Genom. Well, now I got to stop myself and change Pioneer to Geneon. Got to love that business world.

... so they go from Pioneer (the first, boldy going where no man has gone before) to Geneon(a billion years old, ie. a rock)
Gotta love those corporate focus grouups.

The sad thing is, somewhere, some witless bore in advertising thinks he's been very clever.

It's synergy-tastic!!!
Although for some reason I'm reminded of that Simpsons episode with the Mr. Sparkle advertisement. "Mr. Sparkle, a joint production of Matsumura Fishworks, and..." something else, I forget.
"Join me or die! Can you do any less?"

Zac: I thought Pioneer was already run by zombies, considering how crappy their line-up is in general.

Given the name recognition, anybody else here think it was a bad idea to change the name from something well known to something else in general?
And yes, I agree that the new name is odd...

Geneon? Geez, that sounds like some kind of Pokemon... I liked them as Pioneer. I could actually recognize them, and I'll always remember them as Pioneer, since they put out two of my favorite series (Fushigi Yuugi and Tenchi Muyo) under that name...

Reading is fun.

Who's that Pokémon? ... It's Geneon, the newest Eevee evolution!
ANYway, I don't understand why they're even changing their name. Pioneer is well-known and established.

What does that have to do with anything?/What kind of reason is that?

Yeah, killing your own name recognition is brilliant... Coming up with a name change that takes you from being seen as an innovator to being seen as old and unchanging is genius... Making a name that most people wont be able to pronounce for years to come is priceless...

I think it's simply that they can't continue using the name "Pioneer" if they're no longer affiliated with the electronics company, but... yeah, I don't care much for "Geneon", which scans to me as either "Gene On" or "Ge Neon", not "Gen Eon".
