I noticed on my way home today that the local theater was showing the live action movie based on the Death Note manga (note, I live in Asia) and I was wondering if anyone here had seen it and if you would recommend it. I haven't read the manga that it's based on, but I am a fan of some horror (I prefer weird stuff like Uzumaki rather than super gory stuff like slasher films) so it caught my eye.

YES. I highly recommend it. Seeing as everybody's performances in portraying their characters were awesome to me, and even though it has a different twist than the manga, it still draws you in to want to find out more and is very entertaining. ANd Ryuk rocks Wink

I just watched about half of the movie and I found it to be really good. Granted, my Japanese still isn't up to that level, but I was able to understand a lot of it, and I really liked what I saw. The guy who played Light was done really well, and the CG (?) for Ryuuk was pretty damn cool. From what I have seen of the movie, I haven't quite met Misa (aside from seeing her poster on a Bus... kind of funny when I noticed it) or L, but I'm sure they will be up to par. Plus, fighterholic recommends it, so they were probably pulled off well.

That's all. Rolling Eyes

P.P.S. - Did anyone see the trailer for the second movie? I can't wait...

Fujiwara Tatsuya has gotten better with his acting the older he gets, back in 2001 his portrayal of Nanahara Shuya in Battle Royale was definetly not one of the best I'd seen in the movie, so this to me was a winner right there.

Damn, heh. Well then, does anyone know when it is going to be released on DVD in Japan? I'm not really sure how they release movies there. Will they wait until the second one is released then release them both on DVD? Or will they release this one in a few weeks? Or, will they just wait until next year and release them periodically?

So many options. Confused

No telling what they'll do, but to wait to release the DVD for the first movie until the second comes out would seem like a long wait to me, I have a feeling they'll put out the first one sometime soon. I'll do some browsing around tonight and see if there's any news on it.

Yes, the movie should definitely be coming out sometime soon. The second movie is coming out in November I believe, and the Japanese are nothing short of common sense, so it's only logical that DVD should come out sometime soon. None of you have any idea as to how much searching I've done on the Internet to see its availability via any means. I check Play-Asia.com every day, and I've even gone to such lengths as to contact an old friend of mine who lives in Tokyo. But alas, it is to no avail. I'll contact him later today to see if he knows anything about its release, but he's not an anime or manga fan, so I probably won't be able to get a definite answer out of him....
