You have to look online basically, anime is expensive so you got to be something of a deal hunter. Well at least I try to be, because anime really puts the hurting on my wallet. |

Well lets see I have 627 anime DVD's at an average price of $24.00 each(breaking down box sets into indi's) = $15,058 over 4 years for $3,764.50 per year. I have to admit I have become more of a bargain hunter as of late, mostly because I no longer have the income potential I once had ![]() |

Since HD DVD and Blu-Ray will both play DVD, no reason to rebuy again. Eventually though if a format comes on top in the next 5 years, all new future anime will be release on that winning format and dvd release will be phase out. |

I think I also had the benefit of good timing, as I officially "became" an anime fan at the start of 2003. Much of my major collecting took place in late 2004 to the present, at a time when sales leveled off and companies scrambled to discount what they had and re-release everything at lower prices. I can think of about 20 series that I got for less than $10 per disc, like Kimagure Orange Road during the AnimEigo license expiration sale, Snow Fairy Sugar and Rune Soldier used on Amazon, Excel Saga ImPerfect Collection, Azumanga Daioh singles liquidated* by rightstuf after the thinpack came out...the list goes on. Cheap, legal anime is out there, but you've got to dig for it. *it doesn't work for all series with boxed sets, but if you check rightstuf for almost any series where ADV released a thinpack, you'll find the singles for cheap. |

Well it depends if the newer version's extras, how much I like the series, and if it is remastered well. There are a number of Laser Discs that I rebought as DVDs. It also help that the Escaflowne and Nadia DVDs cost about a quarter what I spent on the LDs. There are some LDs (like the Zeta box which also has the proper OP and ED credits) that have great liner notes and artwork that I will keep, but also buy the DVD editions for the clarity. Come to think about it I have rebought almost of of my LDs on DVD except for titles like Layzner which are not available in R1. I just did some quick math and so far this year I've spentaround $3219.52 at Right Stuf alone. My records say that my purchases add up to 2001=$2134.57, 2002=$1443.27, 2003=$2028.98, 2004=$2217.63 for domestic online orders. Before that I worked at a DVD shop, so I don't know the figures. I can't seem to find 2005 exact figures, but I think it was a record (which I will not top this year) at a little under $6000. Almost all of these purchases are at least 35% off since everything is pre-ordered or a 35% to 30% off sale. I've been buying more DVDs these last couple of years since there are so many good titles available for R1. This might sound like a ton of cash, but I spend about $7000 on dining and drinking a year, and rent is $2900 a month. I spend a ton of cash on Home Theater gear (bought a Sony XBR1 SXRD 60", along with a nice Monster Power conditioner and UPS this year) so anime would be only my fourth highest expense. San Francisco is an expensive city. You don't have to be rich to be a crazy otaku. You only need to make at least a 30k a year and have no dependents or overheads. I'd hate to guess what my spending would be if I actually had a high paying job. |

Well, My DVD collection totally sucks compaired most here...but its slowly growing. I've got the Chobits complete Boxset, and InuYasha Season 3 coming next week!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v442/insaneboy/animecollection.jpg I have lots more anime merchandise though. Tons of Posters/WallScrolls, Figures, Plushies and Misc. stuff(Playing Cards, Keychains, Bookmarks, Manga etc....) so it makes up for not having such a large DVD collection ![]() |

![]() Really cool that we both have the same phone and the 1st box we bought was Evangelion Perfect Collection. I hope to see your collection in future years to come. I know it'd be bigger if you hadn't bought all those live-action shows, so maybe your anime colelction will grow even more now that most of those TV cellections are complete. The funny thing is that my collection grew the very day after that picture. I think I ended up ordering Gits 2nd Gig 1-6, bought Samurai 7 1-2 and 4-7, and received my Inuyasha Season 1 Limited Edition from Suncoast. I ended up removing the toys in the top shelf and all but South Park and Boondocks on the first DVD row due to shelf space. I'll probably post an updated pic, since I placed more toys on top of the shelf and like it more now, when the stuff from Rightstuf arrives. I only spent $100 on the sale since I had most of the stuff that I wanted that was available on the sale (Texhnolyze, Gungrave, Chobits, and X), so I know other peoples collections will be far superior in the next few months, but I am still very happy with what I ordered and what I have. I wanted to order Ippo, but it's a little late since last time I checked they have the first 10 volumes, with vol.9 missing. But then even having to buy 6 more volumes would cost more than the first couple of 9 and knowing me, I would want to complete the collection. |

There was an 8th season of Buffy? ![]() And if you're this good at collecting DVDs, I'm sure you'll be rolling in anime sets before you know it. Someday I'll actually buy a camera so I can post pics of my shelves too, I've especially been wanting to show off my Ranma shelf since I first saw this topic. |

[OT] I see your a fan of R.A. Salvatore. I've only read the Crystal Shard Trilogy and the first book in the Dark Elf Trilogy. I've aquired all of his books connected to Drizzt's tales. Unfortunatly, I haven't had the time to read through the whole series. |
