Talking about the whole merchandising thing (which I don't necessarily have a problem with, given that money is awesome)...
Has anyone seen the Naruto toys from Matel? (I think it was Matel) ... Man... they looked so god damn ghetto. |

Jeez, more and more do you see TCG stuff coming out for shows. I mean, Bleach is only on episode three (counting tonight's episode) and they have already made plans? I love Bleach, don't get me wrong, but I would think of the companies to wade out the show until it's popularity grew more. InuYasha cards took awhile to come out, but they eventually did.
I don't think I'll participate in getting the cards. I'd much rather buy the manga or DVDs.
I don't think the action figures look half bad. They're expensive ($20 a pop) but that's to be expected. Actually, the design of them is really nice, unless they look totally different than the ones I'm looking at online at wal-mart.com. |

What took so long for them to make this press release? This news is from August 11, at least:
http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/9123.html Regardless, I'm pretty much done with card games, but if this one turns out to be particularly good, I may look into it. As you said, DarkTenshi90, I'd rather continue to buy the manga and maybe buy the DVDs. In any case, does anyone know if this is an import of the Japanese game or an original American game? |

It ought to be an import; I know that when I was back in highschool we (my brother and some friends) were trying to make one but gave up because then the Japanese one got released and it started feeling pointless.
I kind of doubt it'll turn out all that well, today it seems like companies are just pumping out TCGs for every anime that comes out. I'm pretty sure they even released a fruits basket one -__-" Heck, the last well designed TCG for an anime was Pokemon, and that fails for subject matter. Then again that wasn't much of a surprise since it was Wizards that designed it. |

I'll do some research on the card game before I buy it... which I will buy only if I like the premise and if the game is fun.
Personally, I hate the Naruto TCG game. That "prize" based system pisses me off. And that's a true example of how the person with the most money into their deck, always wins the match. Magic and other games, UFS, can all be won and even contend with some of the most expensive decks without cards that are too expensive. My non hollo deck (except for my Ryu character card) beat a couple of great decks at my local comic/card shop. And my "Code Of The Orzhov" ($6) that I modified with a couple of cards has gotten me an 11 win and 2 loss record. But I still have some time to think about TCG |

I've grown rather disenchanted with TCGs based on anime. To really enjoy them, you have to find a group of friends to play with you first--when you don't KNOW a whole lot of people into both anime AND TCGs, it's a pain. Plus, they can't ALL be good if they keep churning out game after game for EVERY single anime or hot property out there. I buy the FMA cards because I'm a huge fan of the show, but I know I'm probably not going to play with them, and that's the only game I really buy anymore.

I later met some friends in college who played Magic. They slowly got me using their decks and then I caved in and decided to built my own. I have a friend who works at a comic book shop and I met a lot of people there who play card games. Every different card game has a fanbase, and there are tournaments the whole week for different games on different days. Pretty cool stuff. Just to let you know, not all comic book shops are full of nerds. Yeah we have a creepy guy or two, but lucky for me, they play Yu-Gi-Oh and Naruto so I don't have to converse with them because I don't play that game. I personally don't find cosplaying every day to be very healthy, but at the same time it is their life so I don't care. I noticed that Comic Book shops have really friendly people. I've seen a lot of people, of different races and genders, show up to the comic book shop for the first time and get treated as if they've always been going there... specially the ones who trade their really rare cards for crap . But if you like card games, and would like to know how to play, I suggest you visit your local card/comic shop. People are friendly and not just all incredibly nerdy. Oh and it's not always just guys too, although the majority are. We have several females who come in all the time and play with the guys, no offense to anyone but they don't look bad at all either. |

Actually Score made plans a while ago. We were informed of the license during GenCon Indy in mid August. Rather, many of the Score employees and players wanted Bleach years ago, and it further gained movement once it got licensed. Keith Huang, former Organized Play Manager, recommended Bleach for a while, and Garrett Wilkinson, Inuyasha TCG designer, is a huge Bleach fan.
Basically Bleach replaces DBZ as a Score game. DBZ was an AMAZING game, but there were many factors that finally brought it down. Though 6 years is nothing to be ashamed of. I have full confidence that Bleach will be an amazing game in the hands of Garrett Wilkinson and Aik Tongtharadol. Garrett more so since he's a fan of the show, and Aik's had a lot of experience as well. Hopefully we'll be able to playtest the game once everythings set up. Bleach will NOT be an import. Score believes in original games only. The belief that the most expensive deck is the best deck is only the case in some games. Many games that's not the case, and those are the games that generally do better. DBZ had that problem as time went by, leading to the relaunch. Inuyasha, however, can be expensive, but can be cheap, depending on what you want to play. I also believe you can play Naruto without SRs. And if you think Fruits Basket is a horrible game you've never played it. It's actually a lot of fun, and we have a kick out of playing "competitively" when we're bored at the Score booth. The reason why Score went after Bleach so long ago was simple; a few of the people that worked there knew that Bleach would become a hit in the US, and many of the players they had already were fans of the anime. It was a win-win situation. Keep the players and expand on what's going to be popular. So before you think something will be bad, wait until you see the real picture. ~Matthew Low, Score Entertainment Playtester, Freelance Writer |

It doesn't suprise me at all that Bleach would get a TCG. Most popular shonen anime get one (Rurouni Kenshin is about the only one that didn't). Heck, even Sailor Moon and Fruits Basket got one.
I haven't played or purchased any TCGs in a long time, but I may just pick up this one. |

There's already been a Bleach TCG released on the other side of the Pacific, during my trip to Hong Kong during the summer (Late June-Early august) there were ads for a Bleach TCG on the walls of the subway stations. Maybe this will be just a translation of that version?

You can beat an expensive as hell Naruto deck, let's say $400 deck as many winners at the local card hangout I go to seem to have, with a $40 deck? Maybe once out of a hundred. Only expensive decks can really challenge expensive decks. I've beat expensive decks with $50 worth of Magic cards from the Guildpact series. And $10 of those dollars I spent on sleeves and deckboxes. I bought that box that comes with 6 boosters, a preconstructed deck, and a couple of boosters for my really good deck that I built all by myself. I have no super-ultra-holo-kick-your-ass-like-nothing-card in my deck, but it's still very effective. I've played the Fruit Basket game and it is fun, just I haven't seen Fruit Baskets so I can't fully appreciate it like fans of the show. I bought 2 starter decks of the Sailor Moon card game, actually I traded game tokens for them. I wasn't into anime during Sailor Moon but I thought it would be funny to play with some friends. There are a lot of obscure/old TCG games available at my local comic shop because the guy bought boxes for really cheap so he sells the starters for $1 a piece. Sailor Moon, Ninja Turtles, Harry Potter, Buffy (WTF), Star Trek, and some others I don't remember. I just hope this game is accessible to everyone and not super expensive to play. Can someone name a score game that they like to play? (OT)I plan on quitting my job by next semester so I can only focus on school since I'm gonna be 20 next week and feel my life is not really going anywhere, so I'm still going for my English Major so I can become a teacher, but this time I am a lot more serious about it. |

I can honestly never get around the whole concept of a game that's won based on one person befreinding others. Feels too wholesome (even if there are parts of it that aren't) Besides I never said it was horrible, just that they seem to be coming out with a game for everything nowadays. Well the constant production of new anime TCGs aside there are quite a few other problems. There's also the inherent problem with making a game based off of something with a ending; after a point you're going to have to give up because you run out of material. It gets to be a pain seeing 5000 character based cards each one better than the next although, in the end the longevity of most anime TCG's is based off the hype of the show. If they can't keep a good amount of players once the hypes falls out it isn't really worth playing. But if score can come up with something more innovative than the typical light/dark decks or fighting critter concept I'm all for it. But I definitely agree they should get rid of the ultra-super-rarity BS. The secondary market price on cards shouldn't be boosted by the number printed, but on how good the card is (and hence how much it get's played). No card should ever go above $10-15, and anytime one does it should be because the card itself was a mistake (i.e too good/unbalanced). |
