If you think you might have seen a forum posted like this a while ago then you're correct but got locked due to some issues so I thought I might try to start an improved one.
In many different anime series, there are always memorable characters that seem to stick to you and becomes your favorite character. So who is your favorite shojo(girl) and shonen(guy) character from all the anime you seen?
Here are my favorites:
Spike Spiegel(Cowboy Bebop)
He defined the meaning of "cool" in anime with his laid backed and careless attitude. He always seem to remain cool in tough situations, and his form of martial arts, Jeet Kune Do was inspired by Bruce Lee and was always ready for anything.
Rei Ayanami(Neon Genesis Evangelion)
She has a very mysterious appearance and seems to be very closed about herself. That makes others want to know her, but she never tells others about herself. She tends to never get embarassed and is always prepared to take risks, even if it means taking her own life to save others.

Lets see
shinji(Neon Genesis Evangelion) - I relate to this character way too much for my own good. Spends a lot of time thinking about stuff and whatnot and gets depressed easily just like me
The Major(Ghost in the Shell) - She gets all phillisophical and spends a lot of time thinking to solve her problems. She also has no problem getting violent when she has to.

Female: Ciel (Tsukihime)
I liked her a lot both for her cool choice in weaponry and costume as well as her personality. She is smart, sophisticated and even cultured. It makes me wonder if that resulted as part of her atonement for her past deeds when she was possessed by Roa.
Male: Ichigo Kurasaki (Bleach)
I like his cynical personality the fact he more or less says what's on his mind rather than holding back. He comes off a kind of delinquent character, but he really has kind of a do-gooder personality under that and cares about his family and friends even his dad who's always ambushing him out of nowhere, .

Hi I am new.
Ginta Toramizu (MAR)
He is funny, positive, and kinda like me.
Inu Yasha
Shippo
Kawaii!! Shippo is so cool Fox demons rock! He doesn't seem like the character you'd suspect.
Miroku
Aww c'mon, who doesn't like Miroku! He's funny! But he and Sango were made for eachother. He appears to seem like a future me.
Naruto
Hinata Hyuuga
She seemed weird, and weak at first to me...but she comes out a lot, and really became motivated in the anime. She is a really determined person if she tries. And she changed more than any anime character I have ever seen in any series.
Shikamaru Nara
He is just like me, sorta...my one friend says Shikamaru and I are very similar. But I don't know if that's true! But he is an interesting, and very smart character.

Male: Tenma, Johan, Grimmer, and Lunge from Monster. I couldn't pick one of these from my favorite since I find them all important to the story. Tenma for his love of human life, his deciation to any person regardless of pass sins. Johan for being the a character that haunts my dreams and most importantly showing how your mind is the most powerful tool ever. Grimmer for smiling when he didn't know why, for crying when it matter.....and all the story I want to hear over a cold beer. Lunge for being cold, calculating machine....and for showing me that everyone has a heart somewhere.
Female: Not my favorite of all time but currently I am so digging Police Woman from Hellsing Ultimate. If you didn't know Police Woman is also known as Seras Victoria. I've always enjoyed her character in the original TV serie but I am totally digging her now with the new Hellsing Ultimate OVA. Best line ever "My Master's Master?" from Hellsing TV series.....also going to give some love to my Nina Fortier from Monster....nature vs nuture has never felt this real....
Till next time,
Delta Kiral
P.S. Kruszer I dig your avatar.....I just watch that episode I can't wait till I can get it on DVD.

Female: Easy choice for me- Haruhi Suzumiya. I love how her character is so abnormal, well god isn't exactly normal, but disregarding that... yet so human at the same time. Also, she seems to be very consistant in her actions, not just having over-the-top moments.
Runner Up: Lain, for being such an interestingly done character if you could call her one character
Male: Naota, from FLCL. I love the way Naota grows up through the series, starting out as a boy, and pretty much ending as a boy (yes, I just contradicted myself sort of), just encountering all kinds of interesting situations, and falling victem to his inner love, while trying to sort of be an adult. Oh yeah, and becoming the king of space pirates. Sort of.

Female: Kino, from Kino's Journey, no question. She's the wisest girl in any anime I've ever seen, she can be philosophical, she's a tomboy, she's strong, she's capricious, and despite that, she's still definitely a girl. She's still a bit young physically, but lord knows she's old enough mentally. Saber, from Fate/Stay Night get's an honorable mention though for her tragic heroine role, and Nina Fortner from Monster for her potential as the perfect girlfriend/wife gets one too.
Male: Although there's a lot of guys I like, there's a few I keep coming back to, and that's the trio from Hunter X Hunter. Between Killua, Kurapica, and Gon... hmm... although I'm probably most like Killua, I think Gon wins. He gets my vote for best male character of all-time in my book. At first glance he's a stereotypical stubborn shounen hero, but anyone who's seen anything in HxH knows there's much much more to it. Although he'll protect his friends to the end, and he values human life inherently more than his own, he's ok with beating up, killing and/or ruining (or, more commonly, watching other people do it without interfereing) the life of others if he knows there's no other way or doesn't feel it's his place to interfere. People die left and right in the show, and Gon has as realistic an outlook on it as possible, all while being extremely simple-minded. He gets my award for simplest and most realistic outlook on life, and combined with everything else about him, he completely outshines anyone else I can think of comparing him to.

Oooh, another Kino fan. Not many of them on these parts. Sure, I'll add to the voice (hugs the Kino boxset).
Female: Kino! (11oneeleven!...you know the deal). She's a driving force of her series through the slow and deliberate pace on which she acts on various things. And her observations, as well as her strong and deep sense of morality, makes her a far cry from just about any other anime girls out there.
Haruhi got an honorable mention though. You can't help but like that weirdo pseudo-God for being absolutely normal and absolutely abnormal at the same time, all the time. One of the coolest main characters around.
Male: Shinji Ikari. He pisses off so many other anime fans that I can't help but like him. Ha! Take that! That and his (usually failing) attempts to grow. An opposite of those annoying Greek tragic heroes and their hubris.
Also, I couldn't possibly left out Kyon. Probably the most sarcastic narrator-character ever. That and his relatively unnoticed ability to observe a lot of things that the "smart" Haruhi fails to see.

Male : Seta Sojiro (Samurai X)
He is one of the coolest kid I have ever seen. With his smiling face everytime, he seems to be able to overcome any opponent except for Kenshin who beat him when Seta Sojiro's technique Shun Ten Satsu lose out to Kenshin's Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki
Female :Harriet Bartholomew aka Hattie
She looks very cute especially when she wears a black hat that looks like a magician hat to me. Very caring and emotional at times

You would be one hell of a trouble-maker if your single topic got an entire forum locked.
Anyway.
#3, for me, is Rabi~en~Rose from Di Gi Charat. DGC was my first subbed anime (I do own the LE box) and she was my favorite character on it. I think I'm a sucker for bunny girls. Her rapport with Dejiko was also excellent.
#2 and #1 are my favorites because of how delightfully cute, nice and clueless they both are. They would be Misha of Pita-Ten and Milfeulle Sakuraba of Galaxy Angel. These two characters I enjoyed watching more than any others, because they always made me smile more than any others (and are really nice to look at to boot >_>).

For me it just has to be Lucy/Nyu from Elfen Lied!
There is just something about the character, that just grabbed hold of me,and will not let go.

Probably her vectors. You should be glad she didn't rip off you head. She must have found something interesting in you.
Edit: I must admit that was a horrible joke.

This was a hard one for me but if I had to choose just one male/female,
Female: Major Motoko Kusanagi - Simply for her emotional/intellectual (and physical) tenacity to get the job done at any cost. She's a heroine in her own right of which the likes I have not seen with other anime femme fatales. I crown her the queen-warrior of all anime fan-dom
Male: I know that I may get shot for this one but I don't really care, Son Gokou of DBZ. I can't help but love a guy who loves to fight to protect a race of beings (i.e. humans) when he was destined to destroy them. Plus, he loves to fight just for the heck of it. You can't beat that

There are so many female characters I am a fan of, it's hard to choose but I would have to say it's most likely one of the following 3:
Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno: Very smart and not afraid to be a little overconfident about her geekyness or bookishness. She is a true friend to the other Sailor Scouts and will always go to great lengths to help out. She also is one of the only Scouts who doesn't criticize Usagi for her bubbleheadedness even though she and Ami are such opposites on the intelligence spectrum.
Nausicaa: a very strong and skilled woman with a very empathic sense for nature and animals. She is quite a visionary in being both a leader and rebel on the fight to save mankind from greed and corruption.
Vampire Princess Miyu: a troublemaker but also kind and warmhearted. She always knows what she wants and she makes sure she gets it. Her devotion to Larva is to the extent that is much more than friendship but not quite love.
Now my most favore male character is without a doubt the one and only:
Captain Harlock: has a strong sense of honor and justice yet is feared by both villians and leaders with a more traditional sense of authority. Harlock is a quiet and private man with a dark past and it is his close friends who matter most to him and whom he only trusts. But he is very bold and brave and will risk his life for a cause he beleives in.

Female: Lucy persona from Elfen Lied tied with Revy from Black Lagoon
These two are my evenly matched favorites and represent what I adore: complete amoral behavior and a lustful penchant for violence. Lucy is schizophrenic, psychopathic and has possible meglomaniac tendencies--I'm in love! Revy is sociopathic, cocky, bitchy, and would rather put a round in your skull than say, "Hi!"--I'd marry her in a second (as an aside, I think I already did *looks around nervously for the wife*). For better or worse, I have a close sense of kinship with these two characters. I could list more characteristics about them that I swoon over, but those are easily found in the psych profiles of your average serial killer.
Male: Ichise from Texhnolyze
I know this is generally frowned upon here, but I can't really say exactly "why" I like Ichise without spoiling this anime. If you want to watch Texhnolyze, not knowing the ending is critical to understanding the scope of this distopic series. I can say that Ichise is an emodiment of many pessimistic, dark, sado-masochistic, and hopelessness cliches. BUT, when it is time for a "spectacle" (from the series), he like Lucy and Revy, get drunk on the wine of violence. I relate to him as a fellow brother.
