Not that this makes much of a difference in the anime industry.
Even if it doesn't distinguish the two, they're hardly doing anything risque with lolis anymore. |

Wait, so they're not going to distinguish between real CP and cartoons? The doujinshi industry is going to [expletive] die. Anyone who draws a KuroBas doujinshi would become a criminal

Oh Joy, here we go again.
You would think that the politicians in Japan would look at how well this sort of legislation works elsewhere in the world and back away from it ... slowly. But they are politicians, so we can't expect too much thinking from them. Mark Gosdin |

This sounds not dis-similar to a bill we in the UK already have since 2009. But to date no one has been done by it ...yet, however I also know the UK isn't the world's centre for the creation of such things either so it's is no surprise to me there. Yes Japan seems to be changing, and some could say none too soon either. However having said all that, passing a law is one thing, getting the police to enforce it is quite another, especially if it threatens historic traditions.

okay the main part of this bill I do agree with, japan really does need to step up and make possession of child porn illegal. No one can refute or should even argue that position.
However I do not agree adding manga, anime and games into the forte because they are not real, nor will these characters ever be real. Well this is Japan's issue not ours let us see how it plays out. |

Sounds like a challenge. If possessing it was legal, then perhaps more people would be willing to come forward and say where they got it from or who's distributing it? If it's illegal to have it, like in the States, I can imagine a lot of people who might see it accidentally (or not) be afraid of reporting it because 'Now it's on my computer' and 'They're gonna ask how I got it' and not report it at all in fear of also getting into trouble. |

Yep the only people that ever get charged in the UK as far as I know/seen are people that have both real and cartoon. They just use it to give them a harder sentence. |

Not this again.
Can politicians bother to learn that anime, manga and games have nothing to do with real-life child pornography or increasing the likelihood of making someone into a sex offender? Then again, this is no different from instances in America where politicians don't bother to consider the ramifications of passing shaky laws like SOPA and PIPA before citizens have to knock common sense into them. |

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund also mentioned this on their site.

There's at least 1 state where that actually WON'T get you in trouble. NY it was ruled a few months ago, that clicking a link that led to CP was not illegal. However if you clicked save as, that was illegal. |

As I recall, that case had the special circumstance of him not knowing it was still on his computer - if the prosecutor demonstrates you knew damn well how browser caches work and failed to clear it, I believe you're still convictable.
