[Ever consider putting up....]
An off-topic folder and an RP folder?
[Edit: Please refrain from using misleading, vague, or incomplete subject titles. -t]

NO. |
Many have asked for such a forum, but the answer has always been the same.[/quote]

It wouldn't be THAT detrimental to this board.
If anything, it'd be really boss if they had a random, nonsensical, off-topic folder, where we can discuss those things that don't fit elsewhere. (Socks, fire, dirt, the shoe hands, Chuck Norris, and inane "vs." threads)

Exactly, it would draw the wrong crowd. This forum is very specific. If you want those kind of forums there are plenty of them like that in the vast universe we call the internet. The [as] forum has stuff like that for example. I rarely go there however since I find there forum hard to read due to signatures. Not to mention the mindless drivel. In fact I only go there when I want to engage in, or read mindless drivel. ANN forums are vastly superior

I've been on [AS] for two years, but have largely left due to upcoming changes there, which include getting rid of their Incoherent Babbling folder. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with mindless drivel! (Hell, I'm a mod on another board that has such a folder)

No there isn't anything wrong with wanting to vent out somethings even if they are anime related, the problem I see is that these threads would get so far out of hand it would become an issue. Mod already have so much to deal with, I could only imagine how much it would be with that forum.
But as previously mention this is ANN. It's a site that deals with Anime, and other influences from Japan. And yes there have been times when I wish I could just start a thread to just talk to people about what going on in the world, but it is for the best that it stay out of the forums.
I am going to quote ANN FAQ page

NO. |
From that I doubt there will ever be, and it is for the best.

Well, there is animeondvd, which maintains serious discussion on the various anime / news / convention / technical forums but is proud of its Off-Topic section. It might be the "best of both worlds" for those who like ANN's serious, focused approach.

You can make an Off-Topic post as long as you put [OT] next to the title and that the OT thread is relating to Japan.

Or an anime based video game also.

[OT] is not a golden pass for a topic completely unrelated to anime, even if it's related to Japan. Use it wisely, or you can ask why the most famous "old regular" ANN user had disappeared for a month.

It's a bit sad old regular disappeared for a bit, but dormcat is right.
Just because you put the [OT] that doesn't give you free range to post any sort of topic. Rather the [OT] should be used for things that are anime related but not directly related to any show.

Except that mindless Drivel isn't ever done properly outside of some specific forums and it just mounts up to unreasonably unfunny people thinking they're comedy captians.
Plus Chuck Norris is oldhat and the less he is discussed, the better.

This will never, ever, ever, ever happen on this forum so long as I still live and breathe. I'm not interested in giving a bunch of unfunny adolescents free space to be "RANDOM HURRR".
Ditto roleplaying. Are there not enough forums out there for you that encourage beating ancient internet catchphrases into the ground or pretending to be Goku?

Do it anyway. It'll be fun. For who among us doesn't clap for the shoe hands?

Nah. Not only will it be work for the mods, some of us out there won't be able to understand today's internet "language" that people use. I've seen some random threads on other forums, and their pretty bad.
