I think Life totally deserves the Kodansha award. I just read the first volume a few days ago, and it's so heart-wrenching I actually started crying a little. It's a new addition to my list of all-time favorite manga.

To be blunt, the Kodansha award really doesn't mean crap; it's basically a popularity contest, especially since only KD titles can win it. But Mushi-shi is exellent and deserves the win, even if the only reason it won was because it was animated. The volumes of Air Gear I read were pretty bland (again, I suspect the anime had something to do with the win). I've read the first volume of Life, and it's oretty much average, though I suppose it may get better.

I don't think Kitchen Ohime-sama is very popular, it runs in Nakayoshi, and I guess that's why. I wanted to get this in chinese, but it was really popular in Hong Kong and there was no more stock lefted. I guess it is some what popular then. I only know Kitchen Ohime-Sama from the list, but I think the story and the art does deserves to win.
*Natsumi Ando is also the mangaka of Zodiac P.I
