I have my doubts that the series can keep up the same level of quality in 26 episodes as it did in the other two shorter series, but I'm still pretty excited anyway. July can't come fast enough!

Wow, this is a big announcement. Will definitely be checking the show out. And two cours; be interesting to see how SHAFT will handle it.

Actually, this reminds me, I need to watch Nekomonogatari.

26 eps is going to be a real test for SHAFT.
Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari suffered in various eps, and they were half the length.
Then again, half of the 'selling' point of this shows BD/DVDs is that you need to watch them to see the finished product.

Yeah, never seen a 26 episode Shaft series featuring a loli vampire directed by Akiyui Shinbo before.

{looks at shelf}
Oh, right, there's that one.

{looks at shelf, again}
Oh, and that one.

This reminds of something I said earlier; Shaft prior to 12 episode Ef style cours doesn't exist anymore. Is it hiding in some sort of hole, I wonder? I would be interested but since it's most likely going to be Aniplex of America's, whatever...

Even their handling of the first series is terrible. "Hey, let's just stream two episodes of the final story because we can only stream the TV series." At least, I hope it's "can", rather something more ... enterprising.

On the other hand, they're rich now, or at least more attractive to investors. Bakemonogatari and Madoka were both runaway successes, financially. You can't say that money translates directly into quality, but now that the world has acknowledged that this is a cash cow franchise you can be sure they'll give it their best.

Or SHAFT could rest on their laurels and put out a middling (by their high standards) effort. I sure hope they don't.

As if summer isn't awesome enough...

But I hope this outing is more Bakemonogatari than Nisemonogatari.

The next six light novels are more analogous to Bakemonogatari than Nisemonogatari in that NisiOisin returns to a more straight-forward plot-driven narrative construct rather than playing around with densely-layered self-indulging allegorical parody. Furthermore, the next six novels are also quite well received as a whole. Tsukimonogatari is the next light novel in the Monogatari series that has drawn the ire of ardent fans, but that is still quite a long ways off from being animated.

Huh. One is obviously Moonphase, but I'm completely stumped on what the other 26 episode Shaft series featuring a loli vampire directed by Akiyuki Shinbo you are referring to.

Dance in the Vampire Bund, perhaps?

(I'd forgotten about Evangeline.)

Even setting vampires aside, it's not like Shinbo or SHAFT hasn't done 26-episode series before (Pani poni dash, Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko TV) or successfully combined multi-cour franchises (Hidamari Sketch, Zetsubou Sensei).

I assume Negima, since Evangeline is the most popular character in it.
