So...if Geneon Universal is willing to do an ad campaign like this with Danbo, why don't they get one of the anime studios on their payroll on the horn and get an adaptation of Yotsuba& going for next year or 2014?

Last I checked, it was the mangaka blocking any possibility of an anime. It seems he didn't care for how Azumanga Daioh's turned out.

According to this, that's not true.
"People have been asking Azuma about rumors that friction between him and the Azumanga Daioh anime staff is the reason why a Yotsuba&! anime has never been green-lit. Azuma emphatically states that the new rumors are false"

Apparently he just doesn't think it would work.

Not to be a whiny baby or anything but why do people feel that anything by Azuma must be set to a rousing soundtrack of dinky little recorders and kazoots

OK, that aside, these are both so so cute! I hope they make more!

Because it works. "Rousing" and "dinky", sounds perfect to me.

With Danbo's size and the stop motion animation, the only thing I could think of was "Oh no, Mr. Bill!". Maybe a Borrower's in there, ya think?

Quote:

Azuma explains that the reason that a Yotsuba&! anime has not been attempted so far is the difficulty of adapting its idiosyncratic storytelling. For example, he notes there is one scene in which the title character Yotsuba is visiting the Ayase family to play. Yotsuba walks in the door and says, "Konnichiwa—" ("Hello!"). Azuma uses several panels of nothing happening to represent time passing, and then the scene just ends.

Maybe he just doesn't understand the animation process. A static shot used for comedic purposes, hey, never seen one of those before. A static shot used for action purposes, now that's just being cheap...

Or is his problem with scenes that just end rather than concluding? Isn't that Nichijou? For that matter, isn't that Monty Python? There've been advances in cinematic storytelling since he wrote this. Hell, there's been advances in cinematic storytelling since before he was born.

"has not been attempted"?; Does that really mean a company has to create the entire project before he oks it? Honestly, he's just being difficult for some reason.

Looking at that article, all it says is that he has no hard feelings against the anime staff. That's an entirely different issue than not liking how it turned out.

As one of the biggest possible Yotsuba fans out there, I'm so proud to see Danbo do a commercial for the Blue ray release of E.T, since that's one of my all time favorite movies!

I have admit if there are two things that do go together it's Yotsuba and E.T. Maybe a little joke in an upcoming issue of Yotsuba, pretty please. Smile
