I want to know what everyone thinks is the most memorable anime death and why. It can either be of a main character or a main villian. Make sure to use spoiler tags and such I guess since this will probably have a lot of spoilers. Doens't matter if the character comes back to life cause most do Very Happy

I would have to chose between Naruto and Chrno Crusade. In Naruto whenspoiler[ the Third Hokage died...I couldn't beleive it. I thought it was going to be another one of those "Oh no is he dead? Wait, he's still alive!" moments...but it wasn't. I was in tears when he died. I couldn't beleive that it happened. His character was just so lovable that I couldn't beleive he was gone. Plus the funeral scene was very sad as well and really got to me.]

As for Chrno Crusade, if you've seen it you'll know what i'm talking about. spoiler[When Rosette and Chrno died together at the end...it was one of the saddest things i've ever watched. I just didn't think it would happen in the anime, even though references were made stating it would happen eventually. Chrno could have lived without her, but chose to die with her. And Rosette, throughout the entire series saying how she didn't care if she had to use up her time to save Joshua, was very scared to die in the end. That memory is etched into my mind.]

I have two anime in mind...

The first. This going to sound so girly... but.... Fushigi Yuugi.
It's so branded in my brain...
spoiler[Nuriko's death. Ep 33. OMG... I cried my eyeballs out. I was so attached to him and then the way Ashitare killed him. No mercy for that one. And THEN Tasuki's reaction to Nuriko's death took over the edge. TT.TT]

The second. Was the last Kenshin OAV. It was so sad!!!!!
spoiler[The way Kenshin died.... It was too sad and depressing. I cried for half the second episode. And I kept crying after it was over.]

My most recent memorable deaths are:

FMA: spoiler[Hughes' death. That was really unexpected for him to die like that. He was also my favorite character, it only made me feel much worse when his child watched bury him. He was one of the greatest characters from FMA, he focused on using his wit rather than brawn. And he adored his child. His death was really upsetting for me cause I wanted him to remain alive.]

Naruto: spoiler[When Sarutobi died. I was really rooting for him. Even though he was old, he was still the best hokage and ninja the Naruto universe will ever have. He was great at the shinobi arts, he was smart and wise, but most of all, he was compassionate. To see such a character die is such a waste. ]

RahXephon: spoiler[When Ayato brought Hiroko back to where he escaped to. She kept wanting to be with him, confused and all about Mu's. In the end, Ayato killed her without even knowing it was her till the end of that fight. It was so sad to have to see that. I think that scene really got me. It made me be more captivated with RahXephon and ...personal stuff hahah! Before that episode, I was not that interested in watching it...but after that scene I kept on watching.]

Macross Plus: spoiler[When Guld sacrificed himself to destroy the ghost fighter. He was the tragic hero. He fed himself to believe that it was Isamu who did that horrible act to Myung when at the end he realized that it was himself who did it. And by the time he realized that, his time he could have spent with Isamu and Myung in a comfortable and fun fashion was already gone. ]

Escaflowne: Vspoiler[an's brother Folken's (sp?) death. He was actually trying to create a Utopia, a place where peace was prevalent. He was just being used by the emperor. This was right before him and Van made peace with each other. ]

Mahoromatic:spoiler[ When Mahoro self destructs to defeat the one bad guy. They go through 2 seasons about her connection to Suguru. And her death then messes up his life so much.]

FMA Movie: spoiler[When Wrath sacrificies himself so that Al doens't have to. He spent most of the anime, well all of it really, as a bad guy but since he didn't have anyone he became loney. He really cared and admired in a way Ed and Al's relationship and didn't want to see it messed up by Al's sacrifice.]

G Gundam: spoiler[When Dommon kills his brother in order to try and stop Devil Gundam. Especially after he JUST figures out that his brother was good and not evil. He spent a lot of his life trying to kill his brother because he was under the assumption he was evil and then he figures out he isn't, but has to kill him anyways.]

Naming the character is a spoiler, as well y'know. Even as mispelled as it is.

Also, Xebec, for future reference, it's appreciated when you provide your own answers when you create the thread, and not an hour later.

Wolf's Rain: spoiler[Toboe's death, because he was my favourite character and the cute one's always suffer. The real tear-jerker however was Tsume's speech to Toboe's dead body...that made my roommate cry, and she NEVER cries over fictional deaths.

All the deaths in WR were done really well, but Toboe's especially stands out for me.]

I have to say Cowboy Bebopspoiler[ When Spiker died fighting Vicious at the very end. The reson for this is because I always expect the good guy/ hero to win and live happily. When spike died that inpacted me alot. I couldn't belive that they actuly killed off the main person at the end. For me that was the 1st time I ever saw that, and the only time so far.]

Another would probly be, hmmmm, honestly I can't think of any others. All the others are relativly predicable, so I can basicly expect when someone will die.

Also alot have mentioned the SAmuri X OVA, D&B and i haven't seen it so I may add that when I see it, I'm curently watching the full Samurai X/ Kenshin series and OVAs.

Samaurai X spoiler[when Kenshin accidentally killed Tomoe. My god, thats the first time in a loooong time that a show/movie/play/etc. has been strong enough to move me to tears (not that I'm all "manly" and refuse to cry, but in the back of my head, I know that it's not real. So when something is done so well...)]

RahXephon spoiler[when Ayato killed Hiroko. It was just so sad the way she died working against him for the Mu, but loving him at the same time]

Wolfs' Rain spoiler[when the main characters started to die in the last few episodes. I practically cried that time, too. Though I think it was worse because I totally wasn't expecting it.]

Same here spoiler[It's really sad, espicially in the beggining of the series he was always a character that i thought will always be there... What was really sad was that he has such a loving family and i could see him as a good father seeing his daughter grow up. ][/spoiler]

Last Exile: spoiler[When Dio died in one of the final few episodes; I found this heartbreaking, since he had essentially become a good guy, and died in such a tragic way.]

Hands down Cowboy Bebop spoiler[It was the first Anime i ever saw and to see the hero die in the end was both shocking, new, and pretty kewl, so I would have to say Spike's death was most memorable... that and the last thing he said just before he hit the floor... "Bang".]

Cowboy Bebop: spoiler[I think Spike's death is the most memorable because I personally think it can be tied symbolically to the untimely death of bebop musician Charlie Parker (Bird). Both Spike and Bird arguably have no equal as a bounty hunter and musician respectively, and they both died while they were still in their prime.]

I guess I can give seconds to the RahXephon, Chrno Crusade, FMA, Cowboy Bebop, Mahoromatic, and Wolf's Rain stuff mentioned by other people. Those were all quite good, but here are a few more. . .

First, does it have to be a main character/villain? For instance, in Elfen Lied:spoiler[we know that Kohta's sister, Kanae is dead, and there is buildup and foreshadowing to the fact that Lucy killed her over the course of the series. However, when you finally get to episode 12, and see the scene on the train and all the details, especially Kanae saying, "Please onii-chan, don't hate me!"], it really hits you like a ton of feathers, which as we all know is just as heavy as a ton of bricks.

Texhnolyze: spoiler[Okay, pretty much everybody dies in this one, but one of the more interesting deaths was Yoshii in episode 11, mainly because he's a semi-main character, and you don't really expect them to kill him--it sends the plot in a very different direction.]

Arc the Lad: spoiler[Not a show you expect to see in posts like this, but it throws a real surprise at you--Elk spends the first half of the series looking for Merill, a girl he knew as a child. In episode 12, he finally finds that she is the "Holy Mother" who is producing chimera eggs. She talks about going outside and playing in the sand, just as the two used to do, before Elk administers euthanasia by strangling, for which she thanks him, in the very end.]

Fushigi Yuugi: not the character others have mentioned, but spoiler[when Tamahome's family gets killed at the season break point. Especially his sister, who lives long enough to croak out, "Welcome home, oniichan" and some other things. Nuriko's death, you could see coming, but the slaughter of innocents was more cruel and very unexpected. I think I actually had nightmares after watching episodes 26-27.]

And of course, no discussion of this topic is complete without AIR TV: spoiler[first, honorable mentions go to Michiru's death/departure in episode 6, but the real award-winner is Misuzu's death in episode 12--from the moment she says to herself, "No, it was a sad dream, the saddest dream in the world," you know it's inevitable, and all the sunlit, happy, mother-daugher bonding scenes that follow are tainted with bittersweetness. And when she says, "I want you to go on ahead," you know the scene is at hand--in a way, it's a case where it's more powerful without the element of surprise. Then, her monologue, Haruko's impassioned denials, and the "Aozora" ("Blue Sky") music track form a perfect harmony. You really feel bad for Haruko too, with all the regret she feels.]

Yeah, Cowboy Bebop spoiler[was rather surprising, when Spike just died at the end, but I had gotten used to anime characters, even main ones, possibly dying at the end.] because of Trigun spoiler[when Wolfwood died...THAT completely surprised me, because it was the first anime I had watched in a while and I was like, "he's NOT dead...totally NOT dead...NO!".]
