I wonder if we'll be able to check that out in America eventually? So few Japanese language tracks show up on region A/1 disks. Sounds odd, I know, but it's fun to check out the foreign dubs sometimes...

Nana Mizuki to dub over Jennifer Lawrence's voice!!! I didn't expect for her to be the dub over actress. I would've wanted one of the 2 Battle Royale actress to dub over Katniss because I wanted it to be ironic and to also poke fun at the Battle Royale/Hunger Games comparison. I would've love to have Aki Maeda or Chiaki Kuriyama to be the once dubbing Katniss. Guess that's not going to happen although I wouldn't mind Aki Maeda to voice Rue in the JPN dub (actually, Nana Mizuki would've fit Rue better then Katniss). Well, here's hoping Tetsuya Fujiwara to voice Josh Hutcherson's character, Peeta. But still, I would love to have one of the cast from Battle Royale to dub over Hunger Games characters just for irony and poking fun at the Hunger Games/Battle Royale comparison. Laughing

Congrats for landing the role but yuck at live action dubs. An actor's voice and vocal performance are a major part of what makes an actor an actor. Plus it adds a layer of comedy to every scene and turns it into those goofy kung-fu movie style dubs where clearly non-Americans are speaking native US English.

Its not like anime where the character is drawn with no voice so it's a zero factor on their "performance" and is, by default, completely separate from what everything a character does on screen.

But congrats, hopefully it turns out ok and doesn't make the movie super goofy.

Considering the comparatively low book sales of the series over there, I am curious to see how the movie does. It seems odd to me to get Nana Mizuki as a lead though, unless they figure the only group of people they can market Hunger Games to is otaku. Well, maybe she'll do a new song to make some cash on. Anybody know how many screens it is set to play on? Typically these kind of American blockbusters get huge releases in Japan, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it on 400-500 screens.

I'm not sure on that, you could look around the web to find that info.

Assuming this is not a joke (if it is, then I get it), the character Rue I'm referring is her:

That or Katniss little sister, Prim would've also work for Nana. As I stated, probably would've been ironic if Aki Maeda or Chiaki Kuriyama was the one dubbing Katniss just for laugh. Laughing

500 screens is 1/6 of all the screens in Japan a big movie will get 200 to 300 screens.

I think your information is a bit out-dated. BoxOfficeMojo lists plenty of movies released recently that opened on more than 500 screens (Brave, Madagascar 3, The Dark Knight Rises, MIB 3, Snow White and the Huntsman) and hell, The Amazing Spider-Man opened on over 1000 screens. I was being extremely conservative with my 400-500 screens comment, taking into account the box office earnings for the Hunger Games.
