As you can see here, the second they were added to Amazon they already jumped to the very top of the preorder rankings. Seems like this could be the best selling show of the Summer season! The original series sold like crazy even though it had very mixed reaction.

Horizon has a very polarizing affect on people in the anime fandom. And a "purist" adaptation of an LN like this draws the fans of the LN to buy it quite well.
IMHO it's all "tits and glitz" and very little substance. The few action sequences it does have are well done. However, the ridiculous character designs and bipolar storytelling style; jumping quickly between drama and ecchi fanservice tripe, (sometimes in the same scene) really bring the series down.
The overly complex world-building and history are IMHO also very amateur. It reads like something you came up with in a notebook in elementary school as the "Best idea ever! It will be epic!" The author churns out thousands of pages like its stream-of-thought without bothering to have a cohesive narrative, or tying the plot together. (He's written over 7000 pages in less than 3 years. I forget exactly how much, but its already 3x longer than LOTR, and just surpassed the total page-count of the entire Wheel of Time...)
From what I've seen of the fans of the series, they enjoy the DDDD-cup boobs and flashy visuals of the action seems to be the main selling point to them. And to a lesser extent the "EPIC"ness of the story. (As if total page-count alone makes a good story I guess?)

I wonder how many of them are overseas importers, and what's with only 7? Is this the "new way"?

When they're done that way, it tends to be Vol1 is just the first episode (at a cheaper price). Then 2-6 all have two episodes each. Grand total of 13 episodes.

Horizon season 1 makes perfect sense, as long as you are paying attention to what is going on.
The show, however, is not going to lead you by the hand, if it references a comment from episode 1, it damn well expects you to remember it.

I have no problem with that kind of story-telling, but Horizon can't do that kind of thing well. At least, that's what I've heard.

So you didn't even watch it? Then what the hell are you doing commenting on how easy it is to understand?

It makes sense if you reeeaaaally put your mind to it, but it doesn't help the viewer at all. The setting is dumped on you in a matter-of-fact fashion at the end of the first episode instead of gradually revealed in a way that would be interesting. In the end you're supposed to accept it the way it is and pretend along with the show that everything is explained well enough to concentrate on fighting and jiggling.

I wasn't too happy with the info-dump at the end of the first episode either, but its actually largely irrelevant to the actual story being told, and if you pay attention to what the characters are doing and saying, by the end of the series the concept of the setting is made pretty clear. And the actual events are quite straightforward, even if the motivations are somewhat obscure.
I won't go so far as to say the setting isn't completely insane, but the show lays it out enough that you can understand the basics.

Speaking of the actual release, it is good news that more English subbed titles are being release in Japan. But paying at least $400 for anyone importing all 7 volumes, it is a lot of money.
I wonder if companies like Bandai Visual will one day try to release $150-200 complete sets (English subbed) in Japan. That would not be such a bad proposition.
I could see the $150-200 model working for some Japanese releases.

They're actually doing 200 dollar box sets for Lupin since its a more mainstream oriented series. I don't think they have English subs though.

The first episode of the first season of Horizon definitely made no sense, and that is all I ever saw since it was region locked after that.

I'll certainly agree that in isolation the first episode doesn't make much sense.

I dropped it after 3 episodes, and I'm someone who barely ever drops stuff. It made no sense to me and the character designs weren't even that good. It was a mess all around imo.
