I just got done posting this same thesis in the Noir article below.
Maybe it's better that Anime stays away from Western re-makes for the reasons stated in this article: The adapation will most likely never measure up to the original. Perhaps Hollywood should just leave anime alone, if they want to make a movie about anime, they can come up with thier own ideas. |

Since when is Kebbell a big enough name for this project? Or do they not particularly care about big names for it?

Plenty of anime have taken western ideas and concepts and works and made them into anime and or asian version, so I dont see the problem of going the other way; I love anime but I dont see it as some scared art form that cant be adapted.
That being said I dont like Akira and dont get the hoopla over it, its not very good , so I could care less about the adaptation. |

Well I applaud him, a live adaptation in my mind (as well as many's I'd hope) is to bring the GN to life, not to tweak it. I cringed especially hard when I hard about the two becoming brothers; since Kebbell hit the nail on the head about the rage and anger. If the director and producer; let alone the licensee would even think about such a drastic change in the script, then I'd be with Kebbell in not wanting to touch that thing with a 10 foot pole.

I salute that guy for standing up to the big Hollywood juggernauts, that takes guts and a backbone, two assets very much lacking in showbusiness.

What a pity that the people who are actually interested in the source material don't get to work on adapting it. Else there would be so much potential to create really good blockbuster adaptions o.o I do want to see the Akira movie(s) Kebbell describes.

Then again, when you allow people who are passionate about the source material some or alot of reign, they f*** it up royally. |

There is *no* way they're ever going to adapt the full manga.
Just like how they were never going to make a Dragonball movie anything like the anime or the manga. |
