Same here. Not to be a smart ass, but would otaku over yonder possess a driver's license or have a desire to even buy a car? I personally like the idea, esp. with Kuroneko, but I just wonder if the marketing is a little misguided. But then I stop and think of late night commercials for local car dealers, and it would be a hoot it if they tried using anime to sell vehicles.

No goth outfit. No sale.
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let's start taking bets on who Honda gets to represent their lines!
My vote goes to... Madoka Kaname, who is, by the way, too young to drive.

Why not? Do an image search on itasha. Japan has about 65 million cars. Outside of the big cities, cars can be useful.

Well, now as the spokesperson for Mazda, I'm sure they'll give her one.

Everybody loved Kuroneko. Am I really the only one who preferred Kirino? I freaking loved her. I hope they make a second series...

Nope I preferred Kirino myself. It is not that bad of ad IMO.

Maybe if Mazda makes it look like Kuroneko will eventually end up at the backseat of the otaku's car, know what I mean?

My question is, given how expensive cars are these days (especially in Japan I imagine) I can't imagine anyone going to buy a car just because of one advertisement.
Even if said anime fan was working two jobs (both being somewhat well paying jobs) do these car companies think just because you have a anime character people will go out and buy cars?
There is several factors when purchasing a car and when you are buying a car, you want a vehicle that will last a long time. If it were up to me, I know I wouldn't buy a car just because of an anime character.

I'm sure they don't think that, but rather that if someone was planning on buying a new car anyway, this would increase the chances the car would be a Mazda rather than a Honda.
From what I read, cars aren't especially expensive to buy in Japan, but taxes and fees are higher than in some other places. Inspection fees, recycling fees, parking places, things like that.
