I thought this too until I saw Howl's Moving Castle. Now I'm not so sure. I think it's about time he retire.

I've seen that same sentiment a lot recently...he's been going slightly downhill ever since Porco Rosso, but apparently Howl's even got on to some year-end Worst of the Year lists in Japan. Looking forward to the Takahata film way more. Heard he was thinking of adapting Heike Monogatari, but you should probably take it with a grain of salt.

If that were so... (and I am taking it with a grain of salt,) I would absolutely die. I <3 Heike...

The scene where Nasu no Yoichi shoots the fan into the ocean, the scene where the Minamoto slide down the slope to Fukuhara to attack the Taira and Atsumori, the young flute player, is killed by Kumagai no Jiro Naozane... and the very last scene... never fail to make me emotional... always liked it way more than Genji Monogatari (which I think is overrated,) and seing Heike animated, under the guidance of Takahata, none the less, would be truly amazing.

Old Capital would be great if only to see Takahata animate Kyoto. Though Heike would be even better, especially because in a movie you can skip the descriptions of the dudes' armor and get to the good stuff. Razz

Well, in both you'd have some Kyoto, though the year would be different, (12th century, vs. 1960 or so!) which I think would be great.
