Well, it's not that they really messed it up. "Wo" is still correct, it all depends on how you romanize it, considering it's pronounced with the 3rd tone. Although from my perspective, I've rarely seen it typed as "wuo" instead. Maybe it's just me ::shrugs:: The "shile" thing isn't that big of deal either, since they probably just forgot to put a space in btw.

Oops, my bad. Anime smile + sweatdrop I checked a dictionary and I was wrong; it's spelled "wo" and not "wuo". Guess this is the result of not taking Chinese for the last two years Razz Still, the "shile" tripped me up when I first read it.

Great news! I'm very glad to see Takahata returning to directing. Plus, a new Miyazaki movie is always a cause for celebration.

He was supposed to have retired a couple of times by now, but I'm not complaining, since he's still doing good work.

I doubt Miyazaki will be directing this movie unless they allow him to change the little boy to a little girl Wink

Totally. You, of all people, know that I could care less about Miyazaki's work at this point in time, but Tonari no Yamada-kun is one of my favorite movies of all time.

True that. And Meera-sensei still has my copy of it. Anime cry But I suppose I should've known better, after all she never returned a single page of my work.

I wonder where he's going to look for material. I'm hoping he goes for more of a drama this time, something to resurrect the thread of regret and natsukashisa from Hotaru no Haka and Yanagawa Horiwari Monogatari. Though another happy movie would be by no means be unwelcome if he's at the helm.

P.S. I'm going to Gyeongju, Korea in August for a year with this program. One of my classes is for potential flight attendants and I get to teach it in a classroom shaped like the inside of an airplane. Crazy, ne? What're you up to?

EDIT: I just realized our post counts are currently identical. Oooohh-weee-oooooh!

I hate Meera. She said the meanest thing to me ever, on the way to Sanjuusangendou, in the Taxi, and I'll never, never ever forget as long as I live.

I want happy natsukashisa. That's always been my favorite genre. I've just stopped being into sad movies...
I think that if this is an exact copy of Yamada-kun, it will disappoint me, but I am looking forward to something with the quirkyness that Yamada-kun had. I really loved the art style, just because it was different, but great, and way better to capture that sort of 4-koma manga sketchyness in the form of an animation.

But, yeah... I don't know if I even want it to be family interest... since it's so been done... maybe something with a broader scope? I don't know. All I know is I'm totally looking forward to this... about 100x more than I care about seeing more Miyazaki films.

I was on Princeton in Ishikawa, so it's basically run through the same place (2001)... anyway... that sounds pretty cool. Still with all the Korea and all, eh? I admire that, mainly because I would have given up long ago were it me, but that's cool.

Are we still on for Acen? (oh yeah... I'm going to Cali... I got a summer internship with Tokyopop, now I just need to find somewhere to live... )

Dude. You'll have to tell me about it when you're here.

I know, recognizing the similarities between 4-koma comics and sumie and then making an animation style around it was three different kinds of genius.

Actually I wouldn't mind if he went back and did another unusual romance a la Poro Poro. Or maybe something totally unexpected... like a Kawabata adaptation? If anyone can pull that off it's Takahata.

Yeah, it seems like Miyazaki's just making the same movie over and over at this point.

Right, I remember you telling me about that. Neat. Well, if I have any staff issues I'll know who to call for help. Wink

Thanks! It's probably going to be a rough first couple of months, though, since apparantly this school is accustomed to having 2-4 foreign teachers and next year I'm going to be the ONLY one. And one with very little Korean proficiency at that. We'll see.

Absolutely! The temporary bedding of your choice is waiting. And I won't even make you wait an hour and half at 5 in the morning to get in!

Dude! Right in my backyard. I grew up in Burbank. We should get together in LA after I graduate.

I thought this too until I saw Howl's Moving Castle. Now I'm not so sure. I think it's about time he retire.

If it WERE to be a Kawabata adaptation, what would you want to see. I never liked a lot of his work (I hate the 2 page tanagokoro stories,) and disliked the characters in Sound of the Mountain, but I LOVE "Old Capital." If Takahata were to make an adaptation of THAT I think it could easily become one of my favorite movies ever.
I'm reading "House of the Sleeping Beauties" in Japanese right now, so it's kinda funny that we're talking about Kawabata, but I definately DON'T want someone to make a movie out of that.

Ah, AXT... that was so classic. Going to Saizeriya at 6 am and sleeping in the booth while you all drank that 50 cent glass of "wine."...

I've seen that same sentiment a lot recently...he's been going slightly downhill ever since Porco Rosso, but apparently Howl's even got on to some year-end Worst of the Year lists in Japan. Looking forward to the Takahata film way more. Heard he was thinking of adapting Heike Monogatari, but you should probably take it with a grain of salt.
