Is Japan moving from seasonal four girls anime to seasonal five boys anime?

I SMELL THE SMELL OF PROGRESS

Or maybe that's just the incoming wave of "Oh no a series with males in it, how can I enjoy something while fujoshi are doing it differently?"

For a second I thought they were talking about Kimi to Boku. Danshi Kōkōsei no Nichijō looks exactly the same. Blue uniform, 1 blonde hair kid, girl who ends up hanging around the guys, black hair student council boy, and lazy brown hair boy. Guess they combined the twins in this and tosses out Mr. Effeminate.

I'm all for slice of life anime but having 2 being the same kinda irks me.

While there is certainly less anime with it overall especially compared to the proportions in manga, there has also been no lack of shows featuring bishounen. There are always shows targeting fujoshi literally every season.

I also don't think there is any major "shift" per se because it's not like production of otaku and fujoshi shows are somehow mutually exclusive. It's not a zero sum game. If there's any shift, it would be where in the schedule the shoujo/josei/BL shows are, you'd find more of these type of shows. For example from Hakuouki and Kuroshitsuji to stuff like Kimi to Boku.

Still I think it's a good thing to have more.

Fujoshi have been proving with their wallets/purses that they are a huge force right now, so it doesn't surprise me at all that we'll be seeing more Cute Boys Doing Cute Things and reverse-harems in the upcoming seasons.

First Kimi to Boku, now this. Is this a developing new trend?
Still, I guess it makes a change. Sauce for the goose, and all that.

If it goes with Gintama-style humour, I would've looked at this drinking of coffee. Laughing

Even if they announce another ten similar shows, it would still look and feel much fresher comparing to typical girly cast eating cakes, what was already shown in hundreds of anime.

(This not to say I tolerate much this types of slice of life shows, no matter whether girls of boys there are main cast. Boys' stories just look more interesting for a change. For those who love the genre.)
