Oh hey, Adolf! So glad that's coming back into print, and that does sound like a Vertical title to pick up. Wonder if their going to use a new translation or stick with the old (I'm sure there is an etiquette to this which I'm just ignorant of)?

Interesting. Most of my rather small manga collection is made up of Osamu Tezuka works, so putting this title back on the market sounds absolutely fine by me.

From the article:

Viz's Cadence Books imprint published Adolf Ni Tsugu under the name Adolf: A Tale of the Twentieth Century a decade ago, but Vertical will feature a new translation and cover by Peter Mendelsund.

I'm very excited though, I've been waiting for this!

I'll probably be picking up Sakuran, but nothing else really piqued my interest. I'm 50/50 with Moyoco Anno having loved Sugar Sugar Rune, but dropping Happy Mania after 2 volumes. Looking forward to their upcoming releases of Drops of God and both GTO books, plus buying a ton more Twin Spica. And maybe No Longer Human.

OMFG! ADOLF!

But....dammit, do you know how long it took me to get the Cadence versions? I mean, I got them all at a decent price, but dammit, I'll probably put them up on eBay because my vol 1 is actually German, couldn't find that in English for a decent price. Two hardcovers sounds epic, but maaaan, I wouldn't be able to just replace that one volume, I'll end up replacing the whole series. I can read German, but not that well. Or I could just keep them as duplicates. I'll need to decide quickly though so they'll still have value on eBay, even if the set has a German vol 1. I rather dislike the idea of having duplicates, oddly enough. And the Cadence books are kinda thin in paper quality, and I know Vertical would put out better paper and an overall better book.

Heck, if anyone is interested in my set, a vol 1 in German and 2-5 in English, pm me! I know in my heart that I will be getting the Vertical versions. Dammit, haven't even read 2-5 yet since it takes me so damn long to get through vol 1 in German! I've read the series before though.

Ooh, I found the first volume of Adolf at the local library, and not being much of a Tezuka person, I really liked it. Was disappointed that there weren't any more volumes of it there... hopefully it'll decide to pick up the series again, now that the title's been re-licensed.

Thank you. *Refuses to be embarrassed.*
Oh and in only two volumes, though they are hardcover, well cheaper for me I guess.
I'll keep my eyes on Sakuran, see what reviews say.

I also have all of Cadence's Adolf already :\ Actually got v1 on Amazon for a sweet $5 in awesome condition (wish I could say the same about my Phoenix v4 Sad)

Still, I'll definitely be buying this. Love the hardbacks and Vertical's presentation as a whole <3

Hope something like Alabaster or Rainbow Parakeet come soon. Black Jack will be finishing up soon~

Man, ANN, making me feel so bipolar. First I'm depressed about a portion of my childhood dying (Shonen Jump), and now I'm all giddy like a schoolgirl over Adolf being back in print.

Stop toying with my emotions, dammit! *cries and slams fist down*

I'd much rather someone bring over Shinkai's accompanying light novel for 5 Centimeters Per Second rather than another author's manga adaptation of it.

I'd also rather The Place Promised in Our Early Days manga be licensed over 5CM, as Place Promised could definitely use an expanded look from another perspective to help clarify some of the matters of the anime (even if the manga adaptation is by the same author who completely bungled her own consistency with time dilation beyond repair in Voices of a Distant Star).

5CM's answers were all self-contained within the anime, so another perspective wouldn't be as useful (and it couldn't possibly measure up to the artistic and musical brilliance of the anime). I'd rather just have more from Shinkai himself (the novel) to expand the work.
