That doesn't really matter. He already said that it wasn't the extras that mattered, that there were other things one could fill a disc with, like higher quality video, higher quality sound, etc. Yes, sure, you buy something for the show and not the extras, but when you're paying for a DVD, you're paying for quality. When we give the companies our money, we expect them to give us the best they can. Japanese discs cost a lot more than US discs, but with that comes qualtiy.[/quote] I understand this as well, but when would a company draw the line? When exactly does it stop being cost effective to make a pristine transfer. ADV may be big, but they'll never be an MGM or Universal Pictures |

Maybe if they stopped making gutterball crap like Lady Death and Sin, and stopped pulling shit like SIster Princess, and focuesed on more pristine, finer rele- Oh wait, I forgot, that's how they make their money. Sorry. |

I'd like to just take a moment to remind everyone that despite all of the ADV bashing that goes on everywhere, people still like them. ANN ran two informal polls on the subjects:
What's your favorite North American anime company in terms of the quality of their releases (Dubbing quality, subtitles, translation, DVD video quality, features, extras, DVD menus, etc...). Not taking into account how much you like the shows themselves. What is your favorite North American anime licensor in terms of the titles they license and release (not the quality of the job they do). |

uhh.... and? I wasn't so gung-ho against them before they pulled off this little bit of ass-hattery, and I'm sure if they had the poll after this, my vote would go elsewhere. |

Gantz does sound interesting and this review makes me want to watch it even more, but i cannot afford to import gantz dvds from US when there's only 2 episodes per disc, its just bad value

As "clueless" as you say I am, you must be equally as clueless because as I previously stated, I NEVER said that it WOULD be 4 eps per disc. I SPECULATED (a word found in any dictionary or thesaurus readily available in your local public or high school library) that it probably would be more than 2. I'll admit I was wrong, but I also stated in my original post: [quote]None of the insiders got anything more than the disc itself and a promotional flyer.[/qoute] And in my second post I expounded that:
And this one is for you Valgaav, since you wish to throw your 2 cents in: My 3rd post [qoute]Well that totally differs from what the flyer said. But this was late december and companies often change their minds. So that totally blows.[/qoute] No, I didn't read the press release because I didn't know they would've changed their minds so quickly, which they did. As I said in my posts, NO INFORMATION ABOUT those things were said in the promotional flyer. So instead of acting like [beep], read all of the posts first before you speak. |

I don't think he was being an elitist ass. I think he was just pointing out that since you're an "insider," you should probably keep a little more up to date on anime news. The news (and subsequential uproar about it) on the Gantz release has been posted on all the major anime news sites on the internet, and it's been a huge topic of discussion for weeks now. The promotional flyer only said, and I quote:
So yes, it never makes a mention that it would only be 2 episodes, but that's beside the point. He was merely just commentating that an "insider" like yourself should be up to date on what's shaking in the domestic anime industry. |

incase somene didn't alreadt remention it its in the review but hey somepeople probly skimmed thru and said
"ZOMG only 2 eps a disks flame away" It is the directers cut. that and the cheaper price makes up for the 2 eps a disk release. |

If 2 episode retail sell for 18 dollar while 4 or 5 episode sell for 25-30 dollar, than you're paying more than a regular release unless it was 3 episode per disc which is only likely on series that were popular on TV. Looking at the bigger picture, it might be a way to lure more people into anime. if Average Joe (who never seen anime before or just a casual viewer) went to Target to buy a dvd, he or she will notice the 18 dollar price tag on GANTZ compare to every other anime that's 30 dollar. Plus it got violence and sex, it's going to attract people. See, average Joe doesn't realize it until he watch the anime and relize that there's only 2 episode on the disc. And I'll bet you there's a lot of casual anime viewer that buy anime base on the cover and pricing (fruit basket didn't sell well at it's original retail price in spite of having more episode per disc) |

Hey everyone cut Ken-san some slack.
You should realize that he has to say good things about ADV and try to defuse internet FLAMES even though he knows he is wrong because if he doesn't ADV won't send him anymore DVD's. I mean think about it, he would have to be a complete moron to not have read the press release on the website that he writes for. Personally this DVD is a pass. IMO the show sucked and no matter how much blood or boobs you put in it won't make up for a bad story. The point that really nailed it was the part about the dog giving oral to a woman. Please that crosses the line. |

I was going to say something, but forgot my password, but only yesterday there was one reply, and now there are so many!??
But I was going say is that this one did it, I am not pleased about the review, how did the B get in there, this one deserve a A, no matter what. If you cannot wait for the dvd then maybe consider get the tv rip with sub or study japanese and watch on fuji when its aired. As for this series, gonzo acheived a lot. One is the proper 2d 3d mix as in 3d was used in the proper place like the ball and the walls. Two is the consistence of the artistic style, clear and detailed drawing and color contrast stands out well. Three the story was weird in a good way because it lures, and the way they make they speak out the thoughts made it more psycho. There was a lot of blood and nudity but it suit well, I mean, you get immune to those after watching kite, elfen lied and hentai type of anime. I do think the episode is messed up with the cut one thats 11 episode and uncut that is 13. Theme songs with rip slym and bonnie pink suits perfectly, and in my opinion one of the best. The Italian ganster did a solid work here, they deserve a A. |

Did you... even *read* the review? The reviewer EXPLAINED where the Bs came from. Is it not clear to you from reading the text? Before shooting your mouth off on a forum, you should try to try reading the reviews to find out how the B "got in there." Also, you have to realize that a B is NOT a bad score. In fact, it got B+s!!! At this point, I am completely *speechless* at why you're upset because a review gave a show a B+ in two things instead of As. Dude, the world does not revolve around you. Reviewers can't just give As to everything because you like something. Get a grip, and get some logic. |

... No. This is a HUGE misconception about the anime press. People are not obligated to say only nice things about anime companies, because then that would be 1) ass-kissing and 2) unprofessional. If there is something to criticize, they will do it. Also, even if you give a company bad reviews, or criticize them for something, they will still send screener discs. Assuming that people have to say nice things about companies in order to keep getting screeners is a HUGE mistake, and completely undermines any integrity that anime websites and publications have. Don't be so naive. And please, pay these writers some respect. What you have said is very insulting. The integrity of writers and website owners is worth far more than screeners. |

Folks, please be a bit more polite.
Ken-san made a mistake, and IMHO, he should have been a bit more careful about the facts before saying anything. But he didn't deserve some of the comments he received. What's more, there's no need to beat the horse... |

All was said that he was "clueless" when he claim and brag about being an "insider". Perhaps Ken-san is just oversensitive when he's proven wrong? But yea, we were beating the horse a bit too much.
And the only other name calling was done by Mr. Ken-san himself, with such terms like "elitist ass". But back to the topic, I somehow see this backfire. I notice a lot of people who buy hk bootlegs always complain how low the episode count are on R1 (I think 4 is fine). It's already happening in the fansub community using Gant's release as example of bad greedy releases. |
