Correction: The first Hunter X Hunter anime aired from 1999-2001, not 2002 (if you exclude the OVAs).

If they try to fit the whole thing in 45 episodes and call it definitive I think I might have to just write this off with that thing... what's it called? I think I heard someone call it Lunar Legend Tsukihime, but I'm pretty sure it's just an urban legend.
The + is definitely a good thing. I hope that it has the opportunity to run its course with good pacing, all the way through.

I wouldn't mind an original ending considering the manga isn't going anywhere right now thanks to that villain that looks like from Dragon Ball Z

No surprise here for Hunter x Hunter, since 45+ just means its guaranteed over a year, and I'm sure most people expected that.

Excellent. Did the former anime follow the manga closely?

It followed it very good.
It was less violent and had some interesting fillers. I liked the fillers as all the minor characters were expanded notably.

When I first heard the news that they were making a new HxH series, I was ecstatic. But then I heard it's a remake... With a new cast... Of course it can still be awesome but I can't see how it can top the original. And if they can't do that, I may just as well watch the original again instead of this. Maybe I just wait till they cover the GI arc and continue watching from there.

Probably enough for a few arcs with an option for more if it catches, I imagine.

Wait, the new Hunter x Hunter is a new adaptation from the start?
Maybe this isn't the case, but geez, that kind of feels like a slap at the first series, which was quite well done. It's the best adaptation of a long-running shonen fighting manga I've seen. It solved the problem of catching up with the manga with original material as usual, but it spread it out instead of having year-long chunks of it and it was all actually good stuff instead of what's derided as "filler".

I wonder if Viz will do a simulcast with this ala Tiger & Bunny and Nura? Seems like a good choice for those looking into the series, but like others have said, the original TV series and OVAs were great. The filler was a top notch above its Shounen brethren that it felt essential to the storyline.

I'd blame that more on Togashi taking frequent breaks from the series rather than the King. I liked Meryem's development as a character from cold-hearted ruthless murderous King to one coming more in touch with his Humanity. The Ants still have faint memories of their previous Human lives/feelings. The only problem I have is Togashi really stretching the narrative in this arc to OCD-like levels. I don't really feel the need to know every detail and thought of every character per every second. It's nice when used appropiately, but this is a Shounen manga. Not a novel.

Well according to a comment made a while back on their facebook, Viz and some others(guessing Funimation and Crunchyroll) are already looking into getting this so it'll probably get a simulcast or a quickcast on some level.

Considering Viz didn't even bring over the first HxH OVA (which is absolutely crucial considering where the TV series ends) I don't really think they'll go for this.

The problem with Viz and the lack of HxH OVA's in because not enough people bought the DVD's of the TV show for whatever reason.
Maybe with this being a remake, enabling an easy entry point for new generation fans, then they will snap this up.
Can't see FUNi getting this. They already have enough shonen shows on their plate!

THIS IS AMAZING, Of course I would prefer a continuation of where the OVA's left off as any real fan would, but anything HxH is welcome after an 8 yr hiatus of the anime. My god, I was jumping up and down in my room alone wishing I had someone to tell. Can not wait!!!!
