I certainly did not expect such an adorable Luffy to adorn today's cosplay picture!
If he gets addicted enough to the series, opts to read the manga and gains enough reading comprehension, he could catch up in a month, tops.  I have friends who caught up with One Piece in the span of one week, back when the latest chapters were in the mid-400s.
