Back in the day when I played EverQuest (few years back) some of my friends named themselves after the charecters in a certain anime. For some reason this just struck me. There names all ended with maru, I'm sure there was a Hajimaru, and a Kagimaru... I have no idea what it's about so whatever input you can give me would be great.

That's the only thing I could find when I looked online, and it wasn't in ANN's database. Hope this helps some. |

That's not likely to be correct. The page in question contains several texts in romaji, including the word hajimaru - not a name, but a verb: 始まる, "to begin". - abunai |

Well, I did find the most references to "hajimaru" (and a bunch of other "maru" and "fuku" references) in the Steel Angel Kurumi title song lyrics:
http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/sakurumi/sakkkhm.htm Kurumi's title song seems to have the most hits for "hajimaru", along with a few other anime theme songs. A search of "Kagimaru" did not come up with anything significant. Do you have any more info on this? ![]() |

Again, this is because hajimaru is a commonly-used verb. Let me explain with an analogy: it's as if a Japanese person was searching for an American film about which he only knew that the name of one of the characters was "begin".
Searching on the WWW would produce countless results containing the word, but might never turn up the film he was looking for. The title to the OP theme for Steel Angel Kurumi, Kisu kara hajimaru mirakuru translates as "Kiss that started a miracle" (or, literally, "From the kiss, a miracle begins"). - abunai |

Sorry I couldn't be of more help... I did mention I knew next to nothing about it other then the names of the charecters... Would it help that all of them were sword/bow type people in the game ? But I'm not sure if that has any relevence to the anime. Once again, any input is appreiciated.

Can't you just ask your friends?
![]() As for my guess, hajimaru is a very common word I hear in a lot of songs and/or dialogues. But I also believe -maru is a common ending for male names in the Japanese language (the same for -suke, I think). So, Hajimaru and Kagimaru could be the actual names of some characters, but then again it depends on whether or not your friend was doing some word play (at least for Hajimaru). ![]() |

Well, Hajimaru doesn't normally occur as a name. But a few close cognates exist:
橋丸 - Hashimaru (usually occurs as a personal name) 八丸 - Hachimaru (usually occurs as a surname) Less likely, but still similar, are: 箱丸 - Hakomaru 蓮丸 - Hasumaru 幡丸 - Hatamaru 花園 - Hanamaru 花円 - Hanamaru 花丸 - Hanamaru 花圓 - Hanamaru 林丸 - Hayashimaru 早丸 - Hayamaru -abunai |

Well thanks none the less.
And I sorta grew out of touch with them after I stoped playing EQ, so I can't ask them what it was ... Guess I'll have to give up on the search. thanks again -Rendart |
