This is a great snap back to reality after watching so many high-school lovey-lovey comedies. The artwork is beautifully done. The lighting and movement really feel life-like. The story is a romance, but a more realistic, not-the-happy-ending kind of romance. Not a bad everyone-dies ending, just not happily-ever after. It feels honest and true-to-life. The pace can move a little slowly at times, but those times tend to build up the desperation in the viewer similar to what the character is feeling. Overall, this is a very emotionally engaging story that is well worth the watch. |

At times, the story can move kinda slowly, but there's usually another build-up of action coming shortly. The plot and characters are emotionally involving as well. While the whole thing may be a bit gory and violent for some, it's definitely got a great combination of drama and intrigue as well. |

Still good, but don't expect to be on the edge of your seat much. |

Blood & Dismemberment. Lots of it. And naked chicks. Despite (or maybe because of) all the graphic details, this is actually a very well written emotional drama and love-story. It's got its cute moments, but overall, pretty serious. The "villains" are perhaps a little cliched, so that part of the story is a little lacking. The ending (if you can stand the gore that long) is perhaps a little weak and leaves some open questions, but is also pretty powerful at the same time. |

A journey of self-discovery in a decaying civilization. That's probably the simplest way to sum up this series. It is rather beautifully done for being mostly dull, muted, dark and drab colors. Several of the characters are actually quite endearing too. But, like many thought provoking anime, this one seems to suffer from pacing as well. It just moves too slow at times. Although that does add to the quiet-desperation atmosphere of the journey. Even so, there are times when the audience will be leaps and bounds ahead of the characters in comprehending the story. Still worth the watch, though. |

Wow! Probably one of the best mecha-related romance stories recently. There is plenty of action for mecha fans. Even sky-surfing for the surf/skate/snowboard crowd. Not to mention a bit of sports, pop music culture, and teen idol action. It's also a great military drama with conspiracies, factions, and conflict hiding around the next corner. And it has a great mysterious religious connection involved in the story as well. Unlike most mecha series, the emphasis really isn't on the mecha, although they do play a significant part in the story. The characters and their relationships take more of a front row, and are very well developed. This is definitely one series not to be missed! |

It's almost impossible to keep track of how many other series they make use of or poke fun at. It's kind of a tongue-in-cheek joke pointed at anime in general. A must-watch for any otaku (they're the only ones who will understand a lot of the "inside" jokes anyhow!) |

Uplifting this is NOT. While it is a romance, it's also heavily tragic and even gruesome at times. Not to say that those are bad points. In fact, the darkness of the story, or rather all the sub-stories involved, make this almost an epic experience. There is a good balance of dark and light in the story telling. Not everything turns out happily-ever-after. But in a story dealing with immortality and the loneliness and isolation it brings, too much "happy" would ruin the mood. Overall, this is an exceptionally well done story for those who can stand the more gruesome parts of it. |
