Animania Rallies Behind World Cosplay Summit
SYDNEY – July 5, 2010 – Time is ticking! Animania's Cosplay champions, Melanie de Chantraine (Mel), and Amber Martini (Asham) are only a month away from competing in the World Cosplay Summit (WCS) in Nagoya, Japan. Get ready for a visual feast of costumes, creativity and drama as participants from 15 countries compete in the international Cosplay competition.
VISIT JAPAN AND WCS
For the first time, JTB Australia is offering a tour package to Japan and WCS. Mention ‘ANIMANIA’ when booking and they'll donate 10 per cent to support our next Aussie WCS contestants in 2011! The package includes accommodation and transfers to Tokyo and Nagoya as well as a visit to the Ghibli Museum, home to Hayao Miyazaki's sensational animation Spirited Away. Explore all that is modern Japanese culture at Akihabara, Japan's electronics and gaming district, and Harajuku, the ultimate fashion and Cosplay capital. Then join the Osu Cosplay Parade and cheer on Team Australia at the World Cosplay Championship! Fans visiting Japan also have the opportunity to meet our Aussie WCS contestants (contact Animania for more information).
TEAM AUSTRALIA FOR WCS 2010
Australia's WCS competitors have a breadth of Cosplay experience behind them: Mel, from Queensland's Gold Coast is a horticulturalist by trade, but for eight years her passion for Cosplay has seen her drawing, sewing and making armour.
“The elaborate armour, the infallible honour, and all the things missing in today's warfare - any country with a rich history involving brave and eccentric warriors is a place I would jump at the chance to visit!” she said.
Her Cosplay partner in WCS is Asham, a self-confessed ‘dork by trade’ from Melbourne.
“I dress the way I want, often have my hair cut and dyed into crazy hair styles and am into Cosplay because I love to create,” she said, referring to her love of costume and prop construction.
In their biggest challenge yet, Mel and Asham will be cosplaying as Sun Ce and Sun Quan from the popular video game Dynasty Warriors 6 at WCS's token event, the World Cosplay Championship.
