Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Brings Classic Animated Series Voltron to Mobile Gamers
CULVER CITY, Calif. – Dec. 7, 2009 – Timed with the 25th anniversary of the classic animated series, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment ® (SPHE) announced today the first videogame experience based on Voltron: Defender of the Universe. Launching in December on wireless carriers nationwide, the mobile game features characters from the retro series in their quest to defend the universe.
Mobile gamers will play out their own Voltron adventures, through 30 levels and 6 acts, all in the palm of their hands. Featuring isometric gameplay, gamers command robot lions to traverse the galaxy and take on King Zarkon's evil droid armies. As players travel through the game, they form their lions into the giant robot Voltron to take on the more menacing Robeasts in traditional 2D fighting style using game weapons such as the Lion Saber, Blazing Sword or Argon Force Field.
For gamers who want the most-enhanced Voltron experience, the iPhone version of the game features touchscreen controls, additional Robeasts and visual effects, streaming video and audio from the television series and a Facebook Achievement System, where gamers can post their conquests directly to Facebook.
Voltron will be available to Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Boost, Alltel and US Cellular subscribers, as well as iPhone and iPod Touch users. The game will retail between $2.99 and $9.99, depending on the wireless carrier.
